Editorial Reviews

Review

The only resource of its kind I've ever seen. This book is all about planning & organizing activity days for homeschool groups. A support-group leader for years, Marcia knows what it takes.

--Home School Enrichment Magazine--Jonathan Lewis

[This] guide provides numerous ideas for activity days [and] step-by-step instructions for planning, leading, and conducting them. Her organizational suggestions take the guesswork out of event planning --The Old Schoolhouse Magazine--Shauna Rumbaugh

Marcia has been down the road before you and she's willing to share the best of what she's learned in 18 years of organizing events. She's addressed every detail, so you'll have less stress and more success.

This book will help ease the burden of planning and thinking so you can get on to the fun!

From the Author

This book was written as a gift for you--the busy homeschool mom who has added support group leadership to her already full platter of responsibilities. It has been designed to save you many hours of planning so that you may spend more time with your own precious family. The activities described in this book have been tested in homeschool group situations; I have included lists, safety tips, and ideas for extending the activities. Included are enough ideas for over three years of monthly meetings.

I have chosen the user-friendly three-ring binder format especially to encourage you to share the responsibilities for activity days with others in your group. After selecting the activity you wish to do, send home the appropriate pages with the person volunteering to lead that activity. Permission is granted to photocopy pages of this book as needed by the purchaser's local homeschool support group. These rights are not transferable to other support groups or subsequent owners of this manual, however.

Now, sit back in a comfortable chair and enjoy browsing. It is an honor to pass along ideas for you to consider. It is my prayer that you will find Activity Days for Homeschool Groups and Families a useful tool. Let me know how you have put these plans into action for your own group. God bless you for your faithfulness in serving the homeschooling families of your community.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I had owned this years ago!, November 7, 2008
This review is from: Activity Days for Homeschool Groups and Families (Loose Leaf)
My only regret upon reading this book was that I didn't have it years ago! Marcia K. Washburn is a well-known speaker at homeschool conferences. In her first book, Activity Days for Homeschool Groups and Families, she gives an outstanding variety of ideas for any size group. The largest section lists activities such as Character Lessons, Hobby Day, International Day, Achievement Day, and Community Service Day. More challenging activities are listed separately, such as Pioneer Crafts, Dissection Day, and Track and Field Day. The outlines for each activity are very thorough and give even the novice homeschooler a reassuring guideline to plan and coordinate the activity.

Other sections include a brief outline of field trip ideas, and a list of resources for each activity, both in print and online. Each section is well-written and concisely worded so that you can see at a glance what is required.

The book is conveniently presented in a three-ring binder. A welcome option is the author's permission to photocopy activities so that they can be distributed within the purchaser's homeschool group.

One unique aspect of this book is that the activities are applicable to single families as well as homeschool groups. Scouting and 4-H organizations could also benefit from the ideas listed. This would be a great gift for a homeschool group leader, or a welcome addition to any homeschool library.
