So bad, it's great!,
By The occasional reader "Douglas" (Philadelphia, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Actor (Careers Without College (Capstone)) (Library Binding)
This book is hilarious! Only buy this book if you have NO IDEA WHAT THE WORD ACTOR MEANS LET ALONE KNOW WHAT IT IS!!! This book is filled with short, choppy, simplistic sentences, and makes statements that are so painfully obvious that I was serious pain I was laughing so hard. The book assumes that the reader is about 6 YEARS OLD; it repeatedly tells the reader the meanings of words that are so simple, it's astonishing that they don't define every word. I must show several examples:
*"Actors must learn their lines. Lines are words actors say as characters." *"Then they audition for parts. Audition means to try out for a part. *"Some actors work in operas. An opera is a play in which actors sing all the words." *"Some actors work in studios. A studio is a place where movies, television shows and radio shows are made." And now for the dreadfully obvious statements *"People who decide to work as actors must enjoy acting. *"Audiences do not see radio programs. Radio actors must use their voices to help audiences understand characters." *Actors often travel to places such as mountains and jungles to make TV shows and movies. Actors call this working on location." (Incidentally, so do humans) I could go on and on and on. It's almost as if Kathryn A. Quinlan, the author, is 6 years old. She certainly writes that way. This would make a good children's book about being an actor, but if you're a high school student interested in becoming an actor, you won't find anything in this so-called book that you didn't already know. On the bright side, there is some stuff about salary and earnings and career that keep the book from becoming an exercise of total idiocy. I recommend you find another source. However, If you like making fun of stuff, read it. It's hilariously bad
