Rare but not so good,

These Chaplins from 1914 are not readily available on disc elsewhere, to my knowledge, but the print quality varies from barely acceptable to pretty awful - worse than lousy VHS, anyway. At least one item appears to be taken from a download, with 'block' pixellation and very variable contrast. The (jerky) text commentaries re Chaplin before some of the films is gushing, poorly executed and not a little irritating, particularly considering that these are collector's items not likely to need this sort of interruption. There is no information with the disc except titles, and some of these are at odds with those displayed on the films - one 'Star Border', is an obvious misspelling. For my money this disc seems unremarkable value, and I would be cautious about buying others in the 'The Actors' series.
