Easy to read, laced with humor and insightful anecdotes, this book is a must read for anyone interested in the inside story of the Actors Studio. Starting with Stanislavski's contribution to the "impulse of art" which led to the formation by Lee Strasberg, Harold Clurman and Cheryl Crawford of the Group Theatre (still unmatched in American Theatre history as America's only true ensemble theatre company), and continuing through the development of the Actors Studio until 1980 (the year the book was published), writer David Garfield has revealed the "inner lives" of this astounding ensemble cast of characters with a wonderfully neutral perspective on their often publicized idiosyncrasies. This book will dispel, once and for all, much of what has been misunderstood about "method" acting.
