Romantic Comedy the way it used to be,
By Fraser Sherman (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Actress And The Marquis (Paperback)
"Actress and the Marquis" reminds me of a 1930s romantic comedy--everyone's constantly going in opposite directions without realizing, everyone has a conflicting agenda and if a conversation can be plausibly misinterpreted, it will be. The comic timing is great, and it's always nice to see a heroine who has some focus for her life other than whether or not she marries the hero. This is Holbrook's best book, a charming romantic romp.

One of my favorites!,
This review is from: The Actress And The Marquis (Paperback)
I love pulling this book out to read when I need a fun read and a good laugh! I think it's cleverly written. It's delightful, romantic and funny. I like that the heroine is strong and intellectual. A great summer book.

I loved this book!,

It was well written with plenty of humor, interesting situations, and lots of "action" (not action action, but isn't stale and slow moving, unlike some).

Was this book really written by Cindy Holbrook?,
By "dickinsonll" (Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Actress And The Marquis (Paperback)
Having read six books by Cindy Holbrook and considering three of them (A Daring Deception, Lady Megan's Masquerade, and The Country Gentleman) to be among my favorite romances, I was shocked to find The Actress and the Marquis to be poorly written. The grammatical errors and choppy style were distracting to the point that I could not enjoy the story. The book lacked the intelligence and wit of the others. I would have been less surprised if this book had been Cindy Holbrook's first. I hope that this effort was an anomaly and not part of a trend.
