Generic and Manufacturer Codes and Definition On-screen
Since the 1980's standardized Onboard Diagnostic systems—first OBD-I and currently OBD-II—mandated for virtually all cars and light trucks manufactured for the US market have provided automotive technicians with insight into the increasingly complex inner workings of modern passenger vehicles. Professional technicians utilize large, expensive diagnostic tools to translate the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and other data generated by the internal computer networks of in your vehicle when the malfunction indicator light (MIL) on your dashboard goes off. The cost for this is passed on to you by your mechanic, but mid-level to advanced do-it-yourselfers (DIY) can now gain access to this information and much of the functionality for a fraction of the cost of a visit to the service center with the Actron CP9575 AutoScanner Scan Tool.

With Actron CP9575 AutoScanner Scan Tool DIYers who want to know detailed information about their vehicle's condition can instantly and affordably gain access to both generic and manufacturer-specific OBD-II codes generated by their vehicles and their respective code definition, all on the unit's easy to read backlit screen. These codes can be easily navigated through using a single hand with the patented one-touch read and erase buttons both during normal use parameters of their vehicle and in the event of an MIL event. Designed for ease of use, the CP9575 is CAN compliant (an important OBD-II computer protocol), utilizes a standard 16-pin OBD-II connector and features a cable permanently connected to the unit. CAN functionality allows the CP9575 to interact with and sample data from the different diagnostic subsystems within your vehicle, while the standard pin layout and permanent orientation of the cable ensures that you will always be able connect to your vehicle's data link connector (DLC), the OBD-II input port usually located underneath your dashboard. Along with this, the unit's rugged construction, ability to power itself directly through the OBD-II cable and portable size mean that it can be stored and taken anywhere.

Professional Scan Tool Features at a Code Reader Price
In addition to displaying DTCs and their definitions, the Actron CP9575 also provides access to an impressive list of additional functionality that allows for more advanced analysis of data produced by your vehicle. Some of these prominent features include the reading and display of "freeze frame" data, which is a snapshot of the overall sensor readings from your vehicle's central computer at the time of a MIL event; access to the VIN (vehicle ID number), CVN and Cal ID; and the display of the status of your vehicle's inspection and maintenance (I/M) monitors, whose proper working is pivotal to a vehicle passing state mandated emissions tests. Add to this even more productive and convenience features like the access to live engine data, the ability to check fixes within your vehicle by displaying OBD-II Drive Cycle Mode, Internet updatability of codes, definitions and software and language support in English, Spanish and French, and the Actron CP9575 AutoScanner Scan Tool quickly distinguishes itself as a must-have tool that will easily pay for itself in maintenance costs saved.

I have been interested in purchasing the Actron CP9575 scan tool.In doing research,I noticed there are models advertised as "CP9575","CP9575C" and "CP9575L".I called the Actron(SPX)technical line and was told to buy the "C" model as the "L" model designates "LOANER".For what it's worth.

The Actron CP9575L scanner was purchased to supersede my older Actron unit which did not function with autos with CAN bus OBD. The new unit functions as spec'd and I've rated it 4 stars & not 5 becuz the buttons stick down unless pressed exactly on-center and Harbor Freight units with more features can be bought for less $ though they only have a 90-day warranty versus Actron's 1-year. Having a 1-year warranty is definitely an important selling point and this unit came with a very nice fitted hard case. Overall a good if not great buy.

Overall this unit worked as expected on my 2000 Toyota Tundra and 2004 Toyota Sienna. Relatively self explanatory to use and the manual covers the rest. My only issue is with the cable. First off, it is a little too short. You either have to place the unit on the floor or on the driver's seat or lap. The cable is not long enough to set up on the dash or really anyplace farther away than the driver's seat or transmission hump if you have one. The other complaint is the stiffness of the cable. It is pretty stiff and if it is cold at all, you won't be able to straighten it out very well. Not a huge issue really, but since it is already short, all the bends make it even shorter.
Overall, a good product for the occasional user or home mechanic.

This is a pretty decent tool. Its worked on all the vehicles I've tried it on. And being able to see some live sensor readings from a tool in this price range is a great value.

That said, it isn't able to report all the sensor data my vehicle is capable of sending via the obd II port. The one I wanted to watch the most(transmission temp sensor) isn't readable with this tool. I don't hold it against this tool however, you can't pay such a tiny fraction of the cost of professional grade tools and expect it to be perfect.

So even though it wasn't able to do what I bought it for, its still a quality product, and I will keep it because its quite useful.

As an automotive technician, I have found this scanner to be a great value for the cost. It allows me to quickly and conveniently check status of monitors, check and clear codes, and monitor data parameters. It does not support ALL data, as the much higher priced units are capable of handling, but that isn't the reason I purchased it. It came with a sturdy protective case
which allows safe storage in my vehicle, so I'm never without the ability to plug in to a vehicle.
FYI...my previous Actron scanner was stored (without a case) in a toolbox drawer where @#$% mice decided to chew through
the cord rendering it useless ! lesson: don't store snacks in the same drawer.

I have rated this item as 4 stars on the basis that what I received is what I expected and it was a bonus to receive it with a case. It was also delivered promptly ahead of the estimated date of arrival.

My only reservation is that I am still not sure it wiill work properly on my vehicles - which are made for Australia (I am Australian). I have a 2005 Nissan X-Trail, and a 2002 Mazda Mx-5 (called Miata in the US I think). On both vehicles, which I think have OBDII and CAN protocols respectively, the device connected, activated immediately, and said that is was communicating with each vehicle. No error messages came up which I imagine is a good thing!

However, in a communication with Actron in which I asked about compatibility of this device for Australian vehicles I was advised: "Our tools are designed to read vehicles that conform to U.S. Emission standards. Vehicles not made to be sold in the U.S. may run on a different protocol such as EOBD for Europe or JOBD for Japan. You would need to determine what protocol your vehicles were loaded with to determine compatibility. If the vehicles Emission tag states that it conforms to U.S. Emission standards the tool would work, if not it will most likely not. "

I can't find a U.S. Emission standard tag on either vehicle, but I am fairly sure they are not either EOBD or JOBD! I won't know until I get a computer error on either car whether the device will give me the right corrective information.

On face value the device looks great. Should it prove down the track that the device does not work for Australian cars, this fact would need to be made clear on the Amazon site to prospective Australian customers.
