I believe this will ultimately be a very GOOD product.

That being said, I purchased it because it was the only scanner left in stock at the local shop which also scanned ABS codes. To scan ABS codes, you must purchase the $15 Advanced software package, which is fine by me, but it is not available yet and does not work. The U-Scan device itself may yet have some bugs. I plugged it into a 1999 Acura RL to read ABS codes... which it didnt'.... but it also did not catch a CEL light. All it did was run a generic QuickScan and report everything as either "OK" or "Interrupted/Unfinished". I believe the Int/Un codes were for items which can only be read while the car is operating though.... such as O2 functionality, Cat functions, etc. I also plugged it into my 04 Corvette and it again failed to catch a CEL code. Thankfully, that car will actually display ALL your codes... engine, abs, body control modules, ANYTHING... directly to the dash digital display.

SO.... this product needs some more polishing.

BUT... I know I will buy one again in a year or so once they have it up and running. The convenience of no wiring combined with the ability to use it on your BT-enabled phone or tablet (did not try PC via Bluestacks or Win8 yet though) is pretty hard to beat.

VERDICT ---> YOU WILL ALL THROW OUT YOUR CP9580As or OCT 3111s AND REPLACE WITH THIS SOON !!!

PS - forget Actron prices.... go for the OTC brand. The exact same model, product AND software... just sold under a different title for LESS.

At first, this seemed like a good deal, since it was cheaper than a dedicated scan tool. Had a little trouble getting it to link up to the car (2001 Firebird). Once linked up, it did indeed read the trouble code. But that was it. In order to diagnose the code and reset it, i had to purchase two extra on-line programs. Also, the advertised on-line database of probable fixes that is mentioned in the advertisement costs extra. All in all, I wound up spending more than a good, hand held code reader cost. Due to the amount I now have invested in this thing, I am pretty much forced to keep it. My advice: stick with a decent dedicated unit. I would not purchase this again.

The unit itself appears to attach and bluetooth to my Androids and iDevices well enough, but the software (both the included and available on line) is very limited unless you shell out money for the advanced version.
Now, I don't mind paying for software if I could be sure it would work, but I cannot get it to even engage with Torque lite and the information on the included U-Scan software upgrade is vague enough that I'm not sure what I would be getting if I bought it. I'm a computer support person by trade and have lived a lifetime of underachieving and over-hyped product and don't want to throw good money after bad... but, of course, hope springs eternal that I will stumble on what I need to fulfil its promised greatness.
So... I will continue playing with this thing and will change my review if I can get it to work well, but for now I wish I had gotten a $25 ELM so I could shrug and ignore it if it doesn't ever work properly.
Update... And Warning!!! one has to be careful with all such code scanners. This one scrambled some of the coding in my Jeep Grand Cherokee and disabled my 4WDLow as well as messing with other settings. Trust me, it is expensive to have such things reset by the dealer... and they are not the least bit sympathetic or nice while they are doing the work.

I'm glad I did some research before buying. The app is free, you buy the dongle, and then the fun starts. Then you get nickle and dimed to death if you want to use it on more than just one car reading only one section (Engine, ABS, Airbag, Code definitions). This adds up very quickly if you have multiple vehicles in the family, or you want to do your friend a favor by reading their trouble code. There are better code readers out there, and the code definitions are easily found on the internet. Buyer beware. Do your homework.

Had a code read at a local Advance Auto. Asked them what readers they had 'for next time'. They had a large Actron display rack. The clerk noted they was a half price sale going on. Previously I owned an Actron LCD based code reader / clearer / realtime data monitor that while bulky, did the job. Apparently, I had loaned it out to someone (or lost it in my garage). I had used a friends Ebay special Bluetooth reader along with the Android app 'Torque' and found the concept sound and quite powerful although it looked and felt more like a toy than a tool.

The Actron case was well constructed. The box said "just download the free U-Scan app". So far so good.

I found the initial experience somewhat buggy, but it eventually auto identified my vehicle and I read out the codes.

The UI was poor. Navigation through their Cart Tab was un-intuitive. I also began to get the feeling that I was the victim of a loss-leader / bait and switch as it became apparent that to get useful functionality out of the device, that I was going to be charged 'ala-carte' for such exotic functions as "clear codes" or "display live data". Eye roll. Then the kicker... you had to pay 'PER VEHICLE' or pay through the nose for universal functionality. Good lord.

I can just see the marketing guys now in the board room. "And then... just when they think they are done paying.... WHAM! We kick them in the groin and upcharge them again!!!!"... "Oh - and when they discover our mediocre software isn't really free, we'll block 3rd party apps (Torque) from our hardware so they are locked in".

Back to Advance it went... and I bought a competing product at twice the price but infinitely better functionality on Amazon.
