Deepen Your Understanding of Acts.,
By
This review is from: The Acts of the Apostles (New Collegeville Bible Commentary: New Testament) (Pt. 5) (Paperback)
I read this book in connection with an adult religious ed class which I was taking at my parish. When my schedule changed so that I could not continue the classes, I found the book sufficiently interesting so that I continued reading it to the end.
The top part of each page contains the text of Acts, while the bottom contains commentary and explanation, organized by the verses featured. The bottom sections include explanations of words used in the original, comparisons with other sections of scripture, and the placing scripture in the context of its time and culture. The study of this book helps the reader see the recurring themes in Acts, such as St. Peter's "campaign speech" about "Jesus, whom you hanged on a tree." This is a good book to help the reader deepen his understanding of Acts and its place in our Faith. This volume has encouraged me to read other volumes in this series. Acts is a good place to start.

This review is from: The Acts of the Apostles (New Collegeville Bible Commentary: New Testament) (Pt. 5) (Paperback)
This particular series on the books and people of the bible is extremely interesting. The corresponding commentary sections expands one's understanding of chapter and verse.
It is recommended that the Gospel according to Luke however should read prior to reading this book. ( For those that may not know "Acts" is a followup to Luke ) Acts goes into more detail in describing the efforts of the apostles to spread the Word. I became immersed in its reading, you know, like all good books get you. Read it, You'll like it. |
