Excellent military thriller,
This review is from: Acts of Honor (Mass Market Paperback)
For five long years, Dr. Sara West has tried to learn why her brother-in-law Captain David Quade killed himself because her sister and niece still need closure. Now, the prime person who impeded her efforts to attain the truth, Air Force Colonel Jack Foster arrogantly sits in her office as if he owns the place. She wants the pompous SOB to leave, until he offers her a deal that she cannot refuse.Jack wants Sara to go undercover at the military Braxton Facility as a psychologist. He wants her to apply her unorthodox but highly successful expertise in post-traumatic stress disorder to one of his operatives residing there. Jack fears that the patient, a Shadow Watcher who knows top secret information, could harm this country. Sara knows that David was a Shadow Watcher, too, and will learn the truth why her intrepid brother-in-law killed himself inside that facility. Also inside Braxton lies a new technology that has caused death in the name of medical research and a love of a lifetime for Sara, if she survives. Very few authors do military tales quite as well as Vicki Hinze (see DUPLICITY and SHADES OF GREY). This time Ms. Hinze combines a military espionage thriller, a medical research tale, and romance into a fabulous suspense story. The story line never eases up as Sara goes through the same psychological warfare as her new Braxton patients have done. Sara's true love "Joe," a patient in Braxton, is an intriguing individual with quite a history. The eccentric Jack is a weird protagonist who hopefully will gain his own story soon. Though advertised as romantic suspense, ACTS OF HONOR has cross appeal to readers of romance, espionage, and suspense as an entertaining thriller. Harriet Klausner

No chemistry?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Acts of Honor (Mass Market Paperback)
There is EMOTIONAL chemistry that goes far beyond the sensual/sexual that is prevalent in most romances. ACTS OF HONOR, in addition to being a whiz-bang military suspense volume, is most definitely a romance. The chemistry is of the type that leads slowly but surely to a lifetime of commitment. The same cannot be said of purely physical chemistry. Each of Ms. Hinze's military suspense novels has outdone the one before, and I can't wait for the next one.

Simply Sensational!,

This review is from: Acts of Honor (Mass Market Paperback)
Hinze has really done it this time! By blending crisp dialogue, quick pacing, and a dynamite plot, and adding a touch of romance, Hinze has created a story that will linger in your heart and stir your conscience long after you've finished the book. How long has it been since you've thought about the sacrifices our military make for us every day? How did we, as a people, forget our national pride in duty and honor, choosing instead a plethora of situational ethics that made us feel good ... if only for the moment? ACTS OF HONOR will rekindle the flames of patriotism we learned in our youth and challenge us all to fan the fire of honor that members of our military have had to watch over all alone, forgotten by most of us until a national or international emergency reminds us they are there. ACTS OF HONOR is a must read ... for those of us old enough to remember a time when seeing our flag fly in the breeze brought a lump to our throats and for the younger generation who so desperately need to know that we ARE a people of honor, not only for all our yesterdays, but also for each of our tomorrows. If you liked SHADES OF GRAY and DUPLICITY, you will LOVE Acts of Honor! That ACTS should debut during the holiday season, when so many of our military are away from home, is incredibly poignant and just may remind us to open our hearts and our homes to the women and men whose dedication to protect and serve guarantees the freedoms we all enjoy.

Incredibily Intense Military Suspense,
By Stephanie (Dallas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Acts of Honor (Mass Market Paperback)
As I put this book on the shelf of my most prized literary treasures, I step back and thanks the heavens for providing us, the readers, with such a talented author. Vicki has the incredible ability to put you right into the souls of her characters. In these times of less favorable opinion of our military, she revives your believe in their purpose. I found myself deep within Sara's journey and my heart pounded with the emotional intenseness. This book captured me from page one. This thriller will appeal to any romance or suspense reader who opens it up. Forget putting it down when you begin to read.

Slow on romance but makes up for it in suspense,
This review is from: Acts of Honor (Mass Market Paperback)
Determined to find out why her brother-in-law commited suicide five years earlier, Dr. Sara West agrees to go to a secret military hospital to find the answers. Unknowingly, Dr. West has become a pawn in an undercover mission. While at the hospital, Sara is undercover as a major in the military. She must not be found out or she will be "canceled". Her mission is to determine if any of the five men she will be in charge of is a "Shadow Watcher" and could potentially know top secret information that could harm the government. When Sara first meets her patient she is calling "Joe" she knows immediately the he is the Shadow Watcher and he is her one true love she has been waiting her entire life for. But first, Sara must convince Joe to trust her. While slow with the romance, Acts of Honor delivers in the action and suspense department. A great novel to make you think and remember just how valuable our military. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but found myself lost at times and had to re-read sections. If you love military romantic suspense, this book is definetly for you.

Acts of Honor... Just Wow!,
By
This review is from: Acts of Honor (Mass Market Paperback)
As someone who seriously dislikes suspense (military or not), I picked up this book one evening for "light" reading to get to sleep, assuming I'd be easily able to put it down. WRONG!! I read the last page at 4 a.m.! Ms. Hinze delivers a powerful book with compelling characters. Being ex-military myself, I had no problem at all with the premise, right down to the typically arrogant military mindset that has them sending the heroine in pretending to be a Captain without the slightest coaching on what a military officer should know as a matter of course. I couldn't help feeling that it made the story all the more believable! Ms. Hinze had me hanging right til the last minute. I really-truly-honest-to-gosh could NOT decide if the man who sent her in was wearing a white hat or a black hat, til the very end, and I was HANGING off the edge of the seat to find out (literally... at 3 a.m. my roommate complained about the light, and I went into the bathroom and spent the last hour finishing the book sitting on the edge of the tub!). I haven't found this kind of page-turner for years and years... Thank you, Vicki Hinze! I'm run-not-walking to get Shades of Gray and Duplicity!

Grab you by the throat page turner - A must read!,
By Laura (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Acts of Honor (Mass Market Paperback)
If you've never read a military suspense, this is the book to cut your teeth on. Vicki Hinze grabs you by the throat, pulls you in with believable characters, amazing plot twists, and leaves you feeling good about the men and woman who fight not only for our country but for what they believe in. Ms. Hinze has a way with description that places you in the middle of the action, that leaves you no option but to go on a journey with her characters. You find yourself asking "Could this really happen?" To top it all off she adds the growing romance that shows the power of love that leaves you feeling good inside. What more can a reader ask for? Nothing!

Dr. Sara West is working undercover for the military. She is a civilian pretending to be a Captain who is also a doctor. She is working in a secret military hospital with 5 post traumatic stress syndrome patients. She needs to save them or they and her will be terminated. She finds herself falling in love with one of her patients. She hopes to get thru to him but it's hard when he attacks her for wearing white. Why is he afraid of white? And why do all the patients repeat the phrase "I wept"? Not knowing who to trust Dr. Sara is fighting for her life and the lifes of others who have worked to keep our country safe. If you like this book please read Shades of Gray and Duplicity. Both great novels.
