From the Back Cover

ACTS. From tiny beginnings among Jesus' disciples, the Church exploded into a worldwide force in just a few years. How? Jesus left His followers with a mission, and the Spirit of God moved mightily through them to fulfill it. Luke's account of how the gospel was carried from Jerusalem to Rome--despite every conceivable obstacle--challenges us to know and live out our mission in the world. The LifeChange Series of Bible studies on books of the Bible can help you grow in Christlikeness through a life-changing encounter with God’s Word. You’ll benefit in these important ways: 1) You’ll gain a firm understanding of the book-its historical context, purpose, structure, and meaning; 2) You’ll apply its powerful, relevant wisdom to needs and issues you are currently working through; and 3) You’ll acquire personal study skills and a thirst to return to the book on your own-so you can keep going deeper into its life-transforming truths.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some insightful questions, September 25, 2000
This review is from: Acts (LifeChange) (Paperback)
The thing that has impressed me about the LifeChange series most is that the way it focuses my reading of a book of the Bible in places I might have missed. Like a good group leader, the book has a way of asking a fairly penetrating question on verses I'd skipped over before.

Also a plus are the cross-references that point you to further reading other parts of the Bible and the small history/context portions that give some deeper understanding to the background of what you are reading. I've definitely be happy with the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bible Study Curriculum, September 13, 2009

This review is from: Acts (LifeChange) (Paperback)
I used this Bible Study material while I served as a chaplain in Afghanistan. In fact, we only finished about half of the book before I needed to redeploy and the remaining attendees begged me to find a new teacher so they could finish the study.

What they really liked was the "fill in the blank" format, but even more, the questions asked one to think and gave lots of room for a person to respond. This is true of the LifeChange curriculum and of course studying a book like "Acts" is so exciting. Taking a look at the early church is so interesting. The author/editors did a great job of topically catagorizing the chapters. It was, for the most part, chronological BUT when it made sense to study sections from several chapters in Acts that had the same theme, it was presented that way. As a long-time Bible Study teacher, the material provided insight that I had not thought of before.

Great Stuff!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Life Application Commentary essential for Acts, August 31, 2002
By
MARK R VOSS (Cottage Grove, MN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Acts (Life Application Bible Commentary) (Paperback)
If you have a chance to check out any "Top Selling Bibles" lists put out by the Christian Booksellers of America, and other groups, you will usually find the "Life Application Bible" at or near the top. The Life Application format provides useful, practical application to daily living, scholarly insight into cultures and languages, and a wonderful cross-referencing system that unifies the entire Bible under its vital themes. The Life Application Bible is, in a sense, the best of everything.

Although the individual books can be pricey, the Life Application Commentary volumes -- primarily New Testament -- are even a few steps above the commentary in the Bible. All the vital and necessary information is provided, and there is no ducking controversial issues and verses with the verse-by-verse analysis.

I found the volume for ACTS to be the most insightful and helpful, since the narration in Acts can be confusing with a constant introduction of new characters and dozens of settings. The Life Application Commentary boils it down and makes it understandable and easy to track.

I highly recommend any Life Application volume, but especially the Acts commentary.
