Book Description

In order to make this movie, first Jake must survive.

Jake Elloway has a glittering career as one of Earth's most celebrated vidicom movie stars and enjoys his privileged lifestyle to the full.  An arrogant megalomaniac, he is handsome and talented, but selfish and indulgent.

He reluctantly agrees to spend three months living and working aboard an inter galactic freightliner as research for a new role, but finds few friends amongst the crew.

Life aboard the Mayan Queen quickly proves to be anything but comfortable, and when events suddenly take a dangerous turn, he realises not everyone on board is keen to protect him.

With space pirates hot on their heels, Jake and his friends make a desperate bid for freedom, and find themselves in a new and terrible nightmare.

About the Author

Merita King has loved the science fiction and fantasy genre in both books and movies since she was a young child. She has been greatly inspired by years of watching movies and reading books and has wanted to make a contribution to this genre for many years. Her stories all contain a spiritual thread as she believes that spirituality is universal and crosses all boundaries. She believes that the creative process is largely intuitive and can be very effectively blocked by too much pre-planning. “Plot lines, characters and events all come to me intuitively,” she says, “and this makes the act of writing a constant pleasure.” She lives alone, with her vivid imagination, in Hampshire, UK.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jerky Jake October 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I won this book in a contest. I had never heard of the author until I won. So, here's all you need to know. The book is fun and well worth the read. I started out hating Jake Elloway, the main character. He is a womanizing cocky jerk and I wanted to hate him throughout the entire book, but as the story unfolds and Jake learns some serious life lessons he becomes more human, needless to say by the end of the book I was cheering him on.
If you like futuristic space stories, bad pirates, and scary planets, you will enjoy this book.

Acts of Life is a movie that Jake Elloway, a famous vidicom star, is going to act in.
The movie requires him to do some research aboard an intergalactic freighter. I really enjoyed watching Jake go from a self-centered actor, to a person who really cared about the crew on the ship. Don't get me wrong, this guy is not nice, but he does grow, and learns who he is. I also loved not knowing the ending, there was a nice little twist. The characters are built up well, and I want to see more of them, always a good sign of some good writing. I especially liked that I almost forgot I was reading Science Fiction. Some Sci Fi I find hard to visualize, and don't enjoy the writing, but that was not the case with Acts of Life. If you've never read any Science Fiction, this is the book to try as your first. I was given this ebook in return for an honest review. debblovescoding@yahoo.com

So far, the book is really good, and I'm getting into it. Finding it rather hard to put down and Sci-fi is not my first choice in reading. If it was up to me, I would have given the actor to the space pirates myself. I'm not exactly a fan of his.

More About the Author

Ever seen that movie, Secret Window with Johnny Depp? If ever you want to know what I'm like when I'm writing, think of that movie. That's me, right down to the tattered bathrobe, unkempt hair and home like a hurricane victim. Everything stops when I'm writing/editing/formatting, I give it my whole attention. I would love to be one of those tidy writers, but I can't, I'm an all or nothing gal.

Science fiction has been a passion for me since I was a kid, largely motivated by my mother's love of the genre. Having grown up on a diet of Star Trek and Blake's 7, further fuelled by my parents' addiction to the physics of outer space, it was a foregone conclusion that I would grow up to be a sci fi nut. You are far more likely to find me watching a programme about how black holes work, than reality tv.

My dreams are big, and I believe that everyone should aim impossibly high. Although you might not quite reach the stars, if you just aim for the ground, you'll only hit the ground. I believe in destiny and pre-destination, reincarnation and alternate dimensions, human life being the result of alien experimentation, and bacon as a remedy for all ills.

I love to laugh but a joke must be clever as well as funny to make my lips quiver. Billy Connolly and George Carlin are my comedic heroes; you can keep your custard pies and banana skins.

Writing has proved to be the making of me in many ways. It has forced me to upgrade my vocabulary and knowledge, and it allows my naturally observant nature to be of positive benefit. Finally, as the Autumn years of my life begin, I now have a way to get my voice heard and my inner self flying to the stars where she has always wanted to be. I invent worlds, terraform them to my own design, and populate them with people of my own imagining. I cannot change the world I live in, and I cannot leave it for somewhere more comfortable, so I invent my own spend as much time in them as I can.

You are welcome to visit my universe. Take a chance and catch a flight today, you may just find you never want to return.
