This commentary was one I used in a class about the book of Acts for Harding University. The commentary does a good job at covering the central points of the text and strikes the delicate balance between being detailed and not becoming overburdened with details. This commentary is fairly conservative and most within the Restoration movement will not have any major qualms with its treatment of Acts, though I suspect many outside of this movement may have disagreements concerning his views on baptism. Also, I found the way he divided the text up useful and convenient for preparing classes at my church. Over all, I think this is a very helpful learning tool that is worth reading if you are not interested in every detail or topic brought up in Acts.

This book is from the excellent series, "College Press NIV Commentary". It is conservative and from a restoration viewpoint. As with the rest of the series, the book is thorough yet easy to read, making it an excellent resource for students and the great majority of us who polish the pews every Sunday. It appears that in the current set, this book has been replaced by one written by Mark Moore, an outstanding book as well. And though there is overlap between the two books, they have enough difference between them that I recommend having both of them. The digital version of the series still has the Dennis Gaertner version.

This book begins with an introduction containing discussion of the author, date of writing, purpose of the book of Acts, theme and historicity. It also has a thorough outline and a bibliography of books cited.

The commentary itself is well written and thorough. It contains an abundance of Biblical references and footnotes on practically every page that clarify the text or provide references for further study. At the same it does not get bogged down in a lot technical and academic detail.

This book is a valuable tool for someone who is teaching a class or involved with personal work and would be especially ideal for someone who had limited preparation time. I would also recommend the book on Acts by Don DeWelt which can be downloaded for free from the College Press website.
