I just came back from my local Costco, and found out that the James Bond Ultimate Collector's Set box if actually [a little] different than what is stated here on Amazon and what many people were expecting.

Here's what I got from the back of the box:

The outer-box is the same. Inside, the 4 different colored Ultimate Edition boxes from last year are not included. Instead, all the slim cases are presented seperately. On the far left, there is a special holding area for all the linear notes for the movies. It's unclear if Casino Royale is in a standard or slim case because the picture just showed the box sitting in front of everything else. There is one small extra bonus for those who buy this over the original four volume Ultimate Editions from last year--there are two slim books called "The Secret World of James Bond 007" (that might not be exact, but it's something to that effect). There is a volume one and two included. The picture makes it seem no larger than the other linear notes, though.

Seeing that I bought the original release last year, I don't plan on buying this, but it would have been nice to be able to order just the box to house everything together. If anyone has some information on that, it would be nice. Also, I wonder what are in those books. Again, for someone who bought the original release, it would be nice to be able to purchase those extras seperately to complete a collection. Hopes this helps, and if someone has bought it, some pictures would be nice.

Have a good one.

I wholeheartedly agree. It would be great if we could order the box and the books. I'd gladly pay a few bucks for that.

So I guess I made a little mistake here. The version with the 2 booklets and no colored volume boxes is only available at Costco. According to eBay auctions with pictures of the actual boxset, it is exactly how Amazon decribes and pictures it. All 4 colored boxed volumes and Casino Royale with no other extras. Funny, Costco seems to be carrying a few exclusives lately, including a recent "Ultimate Die Hard Collection" with 2-disc versions of all 4 movies in one collection that even Amazon doesn't have listed.

Those two little books were also 'exclusively' available with the first two volumes when they were first sold at Wal-Mart.

As for their content, I don't have a clue since I haven't had the heart to actually open them up.

You never know where the unsold "exclusive" versions from Wal-Marts, Costcos, etc, across the nation may end up.

They often ship that stuff back and it gets into Amazon's hands. I've had several things show up from Amazon that were "Best Buy exclusives" with special bonus discs only available at "Best Buy" that were not part of the Amazon listing. For example, Star Trek Voyager sets.

I got mine in the mail today and the packaging stated that it contained two books with all films in slim cases. But when I opened it up it was the 4 ultimate sets with the casino royale dvd seperate and no books....but it did have 2 free tickets from moviecash that are good for any movie untill aug. 30th 2008....I was very pleased!!

Mine just arrived, and, it is the costco version. It has a red & blue book inside, both titled "The Secret World of 007", a separate bundle of liner notes for all "legacy" films (pre-Casino Royale), and all the slim case 2-disc sets in a row, sans the "volume" boxes, with Casino Royale in its normal-sized case. A rather impressive set. And despite Amazon's HORRIBLE packing job (I ranted about it in an adjacent thread) it was in great shape, with only one of the cases having two broken disc hubs but neither disc being scratched. Great buy, now, if I can just find time to watch them all!
