It works great on painful trigger points.
Charles Edward Ogle
Works wonderfully (especially when used with stretching exercises); allows me to apply much more pressure than I can with my hands alone.

I have a bad neck and this really does the job.

A little background about myself. I've been a competitive athlete at the highest level in two sports (spoiler alert: not the NBA and the NFL). I've also had well over a couple hundred massages from truly great bodywork people (translation: not massages that come with "happy endings"). There are some fantastic bodywork people out there, and fortunately in Boston that number is growing rapidly.

But I've had a persistent knot in the middle of my back, and getting relief from massages has not really worked. Also, my iliopsoas (hip flexors) are extremely tight, and I was told by my chiropractor (also an Active Release Technique practitioner) that I need to stretch the hip flexor and then apply pressure gradually on certain trigger points to loosen it up faster. I tried using my thumbs and fingers, but they just didn't work. So, I had two problems and no real solutions other than spend a lot of money getting regular multiple massages a week.

So I did what most people do nowadays: I went to Amazon.com to see if there was something that could help. I almost got the Theracane, especially because my chiropractor sells them in his office. But I'm a stocky guy (5' 11" and 240 pounds), and after reading through many of the reviews and actually handling the product, I reached the same conclusion as others that the product is probably not strong enough to withstand the vectors of force I would be applying. Also, the size and shape of it make it a bit inconvenient to carry on trips.

There are a bunch of non-electric massage gadgets out there that could be a solution, but as someone who loves tech stuff, I was looking for something with the "Swiss-Army-knife" approach: I was looking for a multi-tool device.

Bought this primarily after viewing Graston Technique videos on You Tube and researching achilles tendon treatments, especially for runners. Took a few sessions to really get the best possible grip, tool edge and technique down but I have successfully broken up several tiny knots/adhesions/scarring from over 40 years of running with this nifty little product. Also worked very well in the soleus (lower calf). Used it on my wife to break up knots in her upper back and neck. Make sure you use some kind of lubricant on the treated area and you must use considerable pressure to break up trouble spots. If it doesn't hurt some to use it, you're not doing it right! Try a different edge and/or use more force. Compared to the outrageous price of the Graston instruments, this handy little gizmo is a godsend. As both an RN and a 40 year runner who has tried EVERYTHING to treat leg injuries and upper back neck knots, I can heartily endorse this product.

This little thing is ahh-mazing. Ok, that's corny but this product deserves an overly affectionate review.
It's about 3 inches wide, just under an inch or so thick, and despite its compact size weighs almost a pound. It comes both with an instructional leaflet (which is very helpful by the way) and a mini DVD, which was only marginally helpful compared to the tiny pamphlet.
Right out of the box I tried it on my neck, because I habitually sleep in ways which cause my neck to kill me with pain throughout the day...and WOW. I didn't even use lotion, just used the wedge side, and moved the star up and down next to my spine... Instant relief. I bought this to use on my boyfriend, because he loves foot massages but my thumbs get too tired. I'm not so sure I even want to use it on his stinky feet now, because I love it so much and want it all for myself.
I've had countless other vibrators (for BACK massage) and rollers, and other various gizmos for giving massage to myself and others, and this lays them all to waste. Buy one.

I've been doing reflexology for 16 years and it's taken its toll on my hands. This little tool is great for doing reflexology, on myself and others. It is great for trigger points all over your body too! It has a nice heavy weight so it feels solid in your hands. It also has a great surface texture for gripping the skin, and great shapes on the end for getting the right pressure in the right place.

At first when this arrived in it's itty-bitty box, I was confused at what this could do. My mother has severe back pain from a previous slipped disk injury and has metal plates in her upper neck and lower back. She also has fibromyalgia. On top of the strict healthy diet, and exercise routine she has to folllow, at times, she finds her muscles tight and confused. Acuforce Massage Star was surprisingly a good way to help remove the tension. My sister has used the product various times on her and it's worked wonders. No more tired fingers, and less problems for mommabear.

I highly recommend this product for anybody looking to aleviate some stress in your hands (the massager) and muslces (massage-ee:)

This tool exceeded my expectation in releasing trigger points in my hand. The weight is nice and when used with lotion, creams, or butters, I found the glide to be exceptional. Comfortable to use and fits well in my hand. I would recommend to others.
