An Accupressure First-aid Manual,
By fddcarey@earthlink.net (Troy, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Acupressure For Common Ailments: A Gaia Original (Paperback)
This book focuses on some easily-learned accupressure applications that seem intended to be the equivalent of a first-aid handbook. Although it lacks the in-depth discussion and completeness of a more professional work, the techniques listed cover some of the most common problems suffered by people (headache, sinus, acid stomach, knee pain, back pain, etc.). The methods are startlingly effective, especially the one for headache. I used this method once on a man who needed shots for a migraine, but who had left his medication home. The pain lessened by completion, but the relief continued afterward. His pain was completely gone in 10-15 minutes, and stayed gone. These methods are especially useful for those who already take a large number of prescription medications, and don't want to add other drugs to their system for more "routine" problems.

This review is from: Acupressure For Common Ailments: A Gaia Original (Paperback)
This book benefits from a very practical layout and content, which is precisely what you want if you have a common ailment and are seeking the solution from a book. Clearly written with the minimum of techno-jargon and maximum relevant content per page. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Acupressure For Common Ailments: A Gaia Original (Paperback)
The book is full of photos and diagrams - A lot of professional time has been put into this book. I bought the book in hope that it would help me with my pain issues and to lose weight. I opened the book - looked at the wonderful pictures, read the 'instructions', and felt instantly overwhelmed. I'm a mechanical kind of person and have no medical or holistic background. Most of the techniques require a second person because of position, the locations of the pressure points, and potential multiple simultaneous points. It might be a great book - The problem might be the operator.

If you believe in the tenets of Chinese medicine, and you want to take care of yourself (or children, spouse, friends, etc.), this book gives excellent guidelines for using acupressure. I've used it for myself and keep it by my bed, in case I wake up in the middle of the night with indigestion!

A Great Beginner Book,
By A Customer
This review is from: Acupressure For Common Ailments: A Gaia Original (Paperback)
I keep this book on my nightstand and use it almost daily. The techniques are well illustrated and easy to understand, although they do occassionally use lingo that may be unfamiliar to the layman. I recommend it to anyone who wants to try out accupressure to see if it works for them.

Excellent Reference Manual,
By
This review is from: Acupressure For Common Ailments: A Gaia Original (Paperback)
I use this in my clinic as a massage therapist to assist people by incorporating use of acupressure points in my work. Its an excellent manual to look things up, and give me points to incorporate for most people as I work.
Its also an excellent self help book when I need to strengthen myself from time to time. As with all body work books you have to be able and willing to touch a few people to find your way to the points. Working on yourself and a couple of family members from time to time will give you the self confidence to navigate the anatomy and find the points. The person who had trouble with this probably never did take the time to feel their way around the bones and muscles on anyone.

more for use by two people and somewhat complicated,
By logophile "Avid Reader" (Connecticut) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Acupressure For Common Ailments: A Gaia Original (Paperback)
I got this book from my library and agree with the writer who said it isn't for beginners, although others feel comfortable that it is. Many procedures need two people for pressure on difficult to reach points. It really seems, to me, that it's written more for practitioners. Having said all of that I gave it 4 stars because it has a great deal of good information for those who are able use it.
