Describe the "vicious circle" hypothesis. 2. List the pathogens commonly involved in chronic bronchitis and the trends involved in resistance. 3. Identify at least five factors that should be considered when selecting an antibiotic. 4. Quantify te impact of antibiotic therapy on the duration of an acute exacerbation and the period between symptoms. 5. Compare the advantages and disadvantages of treatment with penicillins, cephalosporins, macrolides, quinolones, and miscellaneous antibiotics with regard to efficacy, safety, cost, and quality of life.
