Relaxation at it's best!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Adagio: Music For Relaxation (Audio CD)
Don't listen to this CD if you don't want to relax, because relax is what you do when you listen to this CD! At first I didn't think I'd relax, but then the tones of the human voice started and it filled me with such an energy, that it was impossible not to relax! The gentle ocean waves in the background... the tibetian bells... the flutes... the voice... it's all-incompasing! Takes all your senses and delights them into relaxation. I highly recommend this CD if relaxation is what you have in mind!

This is the CD we all prefer to go to sleep to and felt lost when it went missing. For our family, this is the *one* CD we cannot live without. Very relaxing. Next time we will purchase more than one so we will not have to go without again.

Of the many audio sources my husband and I have turned to when we need assistance with finding a peaceful state of mind and body, we both agree that this one, with its lovely blend of instruments and bells, is by far the most effective. My husband finds he can work with more focus and joy at his office when he puts this CD into his Walkman, and I use it for daytime meditation and to help me fall asleep at night.

This CD does what it is meant to do. I typically listen to this CD when I want to relax at night. I like the chanting voices and gentle gongs. I have three of the Adagio CD's by Peter Davison. I enjoy them all for different reasons D. Rousseau Boston, Ma.

It is said that there is music for all occasions. I can't see this CD being played at any time other than for winding down. As its title indicates, the CD is best appreciated when one is in need of relaxation. Unlike a lot of other soothing New Age records, however, this one - which is one among a set of seven "Adagio" releases by the musical artist - is distinct in sound and impresses itself upon the memory. There is very little in the way of instrumentation here. These aren't songs so much as minimalistic compositions - great for the lotus position or for when reclining. The recordings are musically sparse: lacking in beat, omitting rhythm, with just a tinge of melody sprinkled in, in the way of flute and wordless vocals. If I were to try and sum up this album in one word, that word would be *still*. Adagio: Music For Relaxation (1997) is indeed hush, quiet, and quiescent. It is one of the more instrumentally bare albums I have ever heard; in the same vein as, say, Tony Scott's Music For Zen Meditation, there are pauses for silence within the compositions. The three ingredients I enjoy most are those easeful bamboo flutes, those emollient Tibetan bell bowls, and those soft voices - of Davison (heard on tracks 1 and 5) as well as Lisbeth Scott's favonian vocals (on tracks 2, 4, 6 and 8). I discovered this composer via Henk N. Werkhoven's book, The International Guide To New Age Music (1998). Although this album isn't listed among the artist's discography, one learns that Peter Davison's initial records were meditative (as this one is), afterwhich Davison expanded into pieces incorporating beat and rhythm (namely, New Age Jazz), with this CD almost like a return to his earlier work. Although you wouldn't know it by listening to Adagio: Music For Relaxation (8 tracks; 61:05), Peter Davison is a multi-instrumentalist who plays, besides synthesizers, both flutes as well as the saxophone. He has been producing and composing material since his 1979 debut, Music On The Way, and has also written music for film and television. This album is an aural haven, an effective antidote to our overburdened contemporary soundscape. I find it to be a great allayer of stress. |
