Book Description

June 1, 2005

Adam and Steve met in the 1980s, a time of big hair and bad drugs. Their initial encounter didn't go well, so it's just as well they don't remember. But now they meet again, both a little older although not much smarter-and with a lot more baggage. Adam and Steve follows the trajectory of a relationship that started like a joke and just kept getting funnier. With the help of their friends, formerly obese stand-up comic Rhonda and straight-guy ladies man Michael, Adam and Steve struggle to make love work in the face of almost overwhelming obstacles, including a dog with an eating disorder, accident-prone parents, roving homophobes and the nagging feeling they've met before. Actor Craig Chester has adapted his own screenplay for the new film of the same name.

Opening in spring 2005 around the country, the film stars Chester, Malcolm Gets, Parker Posey and Chris Kattan.

Craig Chester is an actor (Swoon, Kiss Me Guido, Frisk, I Shot Andy Warhol) and author (Why the Long Face?). He lives in New York City.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like a great 50's musical, March 17, 2006

This review is from: Adam & Steve (Hardcover)
This book was really a fun read. If you are expecting a epic novel like the Thornbirds or Cold Blood, this isn't it. This is just a really fun, feel good read. It's why everyone went to those old musicals like White Christmas, or Singing in the Rain. To escape and feel good. Adam and Steve met each other breifly in the 80's after a night of partying then parted suddenly and went on with their lives to become and recovering alchoholic and a physchologist. They meet years later, not remembering their previous meeting, and fall madly in love. They each have quirky best friend. When they discover they had once met each other in the past, it threatens to destroy what they have now. Will their quirky friends be able to get these two back on track? Who'll win the two-step dance-off? Read the book. You'll have a blast.
