I own an early Ovation Adamas guitar. Over the years I've tried every brand of string under the sun. Even the more expensive strings don't sound as good to my ear on this guitar as these strings do. None of my local music stores carry these strings so I have to order them on the web and have them shipped. Consequently, I have to think ahead and keep them in stock myself. To me it's worth the trouble.

When I started getting them from Amazon, I noticed that there are actually 2 different packages. I use the Light gauge. The Ovation numbers are 1818 and 1818E. The E stands for environmental packaging. The Environmental packaging only has 3 packets with 2 stings in each pack. The plain 1818's have 6 packets with one string in each pack. Amazon only carries the plain 1818's.

I had been using the 1818E's by default for a while because I never had a choice. I first thought that the ones that Amazon carried could be old stock because the 6 pack packaging was how they came years before. I took the chance and ordered the plain 1818's and found that there's no indication that the strings are old. They sound, perform and last the same as the 1818E's and I actually prefer to have a separate packet for each string.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice volume and bass, November 28, 2010

Very pleased trying these strings for the first time. They've provided more volume, sustain and bass than I've had with 4 different sets of strings on my Seagull Folk Cedar. Nice for fingerstyle playing. I really like the sound of the four wound strings (notes really sing out), but the B and high E strings can sound a little tinny if you don't hit them just right. Not as sweet sounding as D'Addario lights. Don't love the sound when strummed, but my guitar has never sounded great when strummed hard--the character of this guitar's smaller body and cedar top.
