A general textbook for clinical neurology,
By A Customer
This review is from: Adam's & Victor's Principles of Neurology (Hardcover)
This 1600pp-book is a clinically-oriented approach to the major syndromes and diseases of the nervous system. Neurologic examination is not covered. Its overall quality is one the highest. The authors of the 6th edition have placed considerable attention to diseases that traditionally interested child neurologists (developmental neurology, inherited metabolic diseases). The chapters on neurodegeneration and demyelinating diseases are very well written. Cerebrovascular disease is covered in 100 pp. The chapter on peripheral neuropathies does not contain a clinical algorithm for reaching diagnosis in the patient with a neuropathic syndrome - something that almost all neurology textbooks lack. Not particular emphasis has been placed to clinical details of therapy. The practicing neurologist will have to consult another source for that. Chapters are very well balanced, and many cross-references are provided. The authors have also done a good job with the bibliography, providing references to key papers with more detail on each subject dealt.

An ideal and a superb text,
By Prof. KNV. (Pondicherry, INDIA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adams and Victor's Principles of Neurology (8th Edition) (Hardcover)
This book is a classic reference text in neurology surpassing any other book in the field . Every resident in neurology should possess one and neurologists are no exemption . The minute details in genetics are kept to the bare minimum and at the same time the clinical aspects are stressed . The neuroanatomy and physiology at the beginning are simply fantastic. Kudos to Professor A. Ropper .

AN ENDURING CLASSIC,
By A Customer
This review is from: Adams & Victor's Principles Of Neurology (Hardcover)
This text, one of the finest works ever written on nervous pathology and the varied clinical manifestations they evoke, continues to occupy its eminent position in the field. A work by legends, it has become one on its own - no other textbook in existence elucidates neurological disease with such clarity and honesty.Magnificent.

Among the best....,

This review is from: Adams & Victor's Principles Of Neurology (Hardcover)
This text is not easy to read, but it packs a lot of information. You can almost guarantee that this book will provide useful info on any neurological disease. It is one of the best reference books for general neurology. I also find its end-chapter references to be fairly complete. One criticism is that it does not offer too many tables or illustrations.

Essential for neurology board exam,
By alper (Miami/ Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adams & Victor's Principles Of Neurology (Hardcover)
I have been studying for board exam for past couple years and have chance to review this book recently. From first chapter to the last page, you'll find basic principles of general neurology as well as pediatric neurology in well-designed systematic pattern. Clinical approach to signs and symptomatology makes this textbook essential for clinicians. New treatment and diagnostic approach at each chapter also make it a "must" for neurology residents, studying for the board exam. Principles of Neurology is the way how to understand fundemantal of neurology.

A classic text.,

This review is from: Adams and Victor's Principles of Neurology (8th Edition) (Hardcover)
The book is a "must have" item for those interested in neurology.
It is written beautifully, and in my opinion it is one of the best texts of neurology ever written. The only suggestion I have for the next edition is NOT to use a font which is significantly smaller and harder to read.

It's not the most complete reference in neurology, but it's objective, go straight to the point, suitable clinical information. I recommend.

Not my kind of book,

This review is from: Adams and Victor's Principles of Neurology (8th Edition) (Hardcover)
This book is packed with excellent information, but such info is very hard to extract. The style is verbose, and there is no way to differentiate what is mandatory to know from what is advisable to know to what is impermissible not to know. Because of this poor design, it is almost useless unless you already know the topic pretty well.
If you are specializing in the topic, buy it. If you are planning to buy this as your first clinical neurology book, find something else.

This is a "must have" book for neuropathologists too!,
By
This review is from: Adams and Victor's Principles of Neurology, Ninth Edition (Adams & Victor's Principles of Neurology) (Hardcover)
I am not a neurologist; but as a neuropathologist, I work with them often. I find myself reaching for "Adams and Victor" as frequently as I do my pathology textbooks! I have access to this book for free electronically through my medical library, but its so much easier to have a hard copy within reach. I am not a technophobe; I just think that sometimes a tangible book is just more efficient. One more thing: the price for this book is ridiculously low given the incredible amount of information that is packed into it.
