Ada - Adaptations Mixtape #1, September 3, 2011
This review is from: Adaptations: Mixtape #1 (Audio CD)
Ada gives an overview of her impressive body of work with ADAPTATIONS MIXTAPE #1, a collection of her remixes, smoothly blended for maximum enjoyment. Ada's moody synths accompany Tracey Thorn's plaintive vocals on "Grand Canyon," and Dee Pulse takes Ada's own "Fizzman" into a twinkling landscape. She gives Booka Shade's "Vertigo vs. Cha" a deep electro bass, while Brant's "Last Night Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" has a funky, almost carnivalesque sound to it. It's quite a nice track, and to follow that with the instant classic of the Michael Mayer & Tobias Thomas mix of "Maps" really takes this album on a high note. DJ Koze's mix of "Eve" also hits another high point, an upbeat and joyous track. Andi Teichmann's "Tape" gets a poppy redux, and Ada's own compositions, "Lovestoned," Living It Up" and "Forty Winks" shows that she's no slacker when it comes to her own productions.
