This product works exactly how I hoped it would. My iBook battery no longer holds a charge so I cannot testify as to how well this adaptor charges my battery, but when plugged in to the wall, it will power my iBook indefinitely.

It is true that there is not a color-changing light at the site of attachment to the computer to indicate charging status. However, there is a green light on the adaptor box which lights up when plugged into the wall, though it is not affected by attachment or disattachment to the computer.

This cord is of comparable length to my old adaptor which came with my mac, but is far sturdier. This should help prevent me from breaking the cord by tripping over it, which is what caused me to buy a new one. I much prefer this adaptor.

There are many inexpensive choices for PowerBook AC adapters and I have accumulated quite a collection over the years. Given the selection, I would bypass this one as it's *too short* for my taste. It is 8 feet long. Thats sounds like plenty, but with the heavy(-ish) power block right in the middle, that's less than 4 feet on either side. This adapter's geometry weirdly manages to be awkward in numerous situations. For example: suppose you have your laptop on a standard 28"-high desk with one of those holes for cables in the desktop. If you rest the powerblock on the floor (to prevent cable strain) you have only 15" of cable left after you clear the hole in the desk. With my desk configuration, it is impossible to position my laptop so that the power port is that close to the hole. As a result, the heavy(-ish) powerblock has to dangle above the floor, which puts strain on the power cable, makes the laptop hard to move, induces subconscious angst over strain on the cable and powerport, etc...

By comparison, Apple's adapters have 6 feet of cable on either side of their heavy powerblock. The PacRim knockoffs like this one are vastly cheaper (and lighter), and I do like them. One of my favourites has the same hole-in-desk problem as this one, with less than 4 feet of cable downstream of the powerblock, but its total length is 9 feet rather than 8 and I've found that helpful. (I'm sure other frequent travellers have encountered the irritating scarcity of AC outlets in hotel rooms, and their bewildering placement, which always seems to be as far as possible from one's favourite piece of furniture.) The problem with the knockoffs is that their photographs all look identical and the posted specs never include the cable length, so I thought I would post some specs on this one.

I bought this in order to get an old iBook G3 working. It is one of the two generations of iBook G3 that looks like a brightly colored clam shell. It is the latter of the two; the one with a FireWire port.

It end of the power cable doesn't fit into the power socket on the iBook. Its too small. I suspect that this is made for any of the "chicklet" shaped, white, plastic iBooks.

I'm giving this a rating of one star only because Amazon requires a rating. I have no actual knowledge of how well or poorly this device works. I didn't see any other reviews or the product description mention that it doesn't work on the clamshell style of iBook G3, though, so I felt it was important to share that information.

I bought this as a replacement charger for my PowerBook G4 about six months ago. It has done a great job and I haven't had any problems with it. A much more affordable alternative to anything Apple would sell.

So far so good. This is a bare bones power supply - no fancy color changing LED plug (nor any other sort of indicator for that matter). Works fine with my PB G4. Gets just barely warm, unlike the original Apple 45 watt supply which got quite hot.

I've had this for a year and no problems. I had my iBook for 8 years, during the first 7 I blew through 2 Apple adapters, typically by weakening the wire that connected into the computer. This adapter has been much sturdier. It doesn't have the charge light indicator, but at $10 (compared to $90 for the Apple adapter) it's a fair trade off for me.

Poor quality. The first one I purchased worked okay for about four months except the plug in part kept falling out. Ordered a second just like the first, and it did not work when it arrived. Fortunately with this second two-piece adapter, I was able to put together one piece from the first purchase and the other piece from the second purchase and wah-lah, I had power. Again, for just 3-4 months.

Then I ordered a different adapter.
