Customer Reviews

The whole thing feels very flimsy and cheaply made.
Ron
It had to take out the board on the hard drive I was trying to access with a power spike.

I used this to wipe old disk drives and it worked perfectly.

Although not pretty, this adapter allows your to use old IDE and SATA harddrives as external hard drives. It comes complete with a multi-connector drive to USB connector, AC adapter, and power cables. This adapter came in handy when my old Dell computer died. It had an old but large (750 GB) Seagate IDE drive and a second (300 GB) Maxtor IDE drive. Most of my critical data was on the 750 drive and (shame on me), I had not backed up the drive for months. With this adapter I was able to retrieve the old data and transfer it to my new computer. The adapter seems to work fine on XP, Vista, and Windows 7 computers.

I plugged the power cable and data cable into my hard drive, and BANG- the power converter died. But it wasn't just content to die. It had to take out the board on the hard drive I was trying to access with a power spike. So now not only did this product fail, but I cannot use the hard drive that I had got this to access in the first place. Look elsewhere.

Received product exactly as it was stated. Shipped a day after it was scheduled but never-the-less product works just fine.

The down side:

1)There is no light to indicate that data is being transferred. Until your computer picks up the data flow and asks what you want to do with it you are blindly hoping.

2)Always feels on the verge of falling apart in your hand. Cheaply made.

The up side:

1)It works especially well with SATA drives, so far.

2)The card reader included with it was a pleasant surprise. I use it on a couple of older computers and it works well. Made it worth the purchase price.

I got the first product and it didn't work as expected. The hard drive booted up but the computer would not read it. After confirming the issue was the cable, I emailed the seller and they send me out a replacement right away. The second one works perfect.

Purchased product and it does indeed do what it is designed for. I had one before this but it was mis placed or stolen. The product that hooks up to the interface of the hard drive has a feeling of cheap plastic. It does indeed work but care nust me taken when pluging it up as the interface feels as though it wants to split. I like it and have used it but would like the reader interface to be a little more heavy duty

This worked perfectly to prepare a new TiVo drive. My pc only has sata (as most do now) so this was a great way to talk to the old school IDE TiVo drive. Its access seemed pretty quick.

I originally purchased this adapter to have so that I could attempt to recover data from other drives. Over half of the time, the power supply that came with it would not provide the proper voltages so the drives ended up getting fried. The whole thing feels very flimsy and cheaply made. Have since replaced it with something that actually works.
