built a pc and and used up all the motherbord usb headers on the case usb ports, i needed 1 more usb header for the internal card reader, so i got this cable and ran it out the back of the case and used one of the many empty usb ports on the back of the mb, it works works great.
I wish it was a double row connector

The problem: I have a Kraken X61 Liquid CPU Cooler that connects to a USB2 header on the motherboard to monitor and control the pump. My case has 4 USB2 ports on the front, which need to connect to two motherboard headers. My motherboard has two headers, but since the Kraken needs one header, I was unable to connect all the case's USB2 ports to the motherboard. I bought this motherboard and case so that I would be able to use all the available USB ports, but I failed to realize the Kraken would spoil my plans.

Looking at the wiring, the Kraken only uses one of the two USB ports on the header, so it was using up 2 ports worth of USB header when it really only needs one.

The solution: This cable solved my problem. I connected the Kraken to one end of this cable, and connected the other end to a standard USB type A female port. I was careful to make sure the red +5V wire on the Kraken cable connected to the red wire on the adapter cable. The colors of all the other wires matched up, so I felt confident this would work. My motherboard happened to have a USB3 type A female port available, so I was able to keep the cable completely inside my case. The cable is long enough to run it behind my motherboard tray so there is no additional cable clutter. It would also work to run the cable outside the case and connect to any available standard USB2 or USB3 female port.

Once this cable was connected, I was able to connect the remaining two USB2 ports on my case to the USB2 header that was previously used by the Kraken. Now all my external USB ports are usable and I am still able to monitor and control the Kraken.

I custom build computers as my second job to bring in some extra doh. Many add-on USB cards have these internal USB "A" female connectors on them that without this cable are almost totally useless. Why the manufacturers just don't include a header pin connector like you see on a motherboard is beyond me. This cable fixes that design problem.

I would be sure to use either electrical tape, or shrink wrap to hold the two pin plugs together and to help insulate them. One of the pins carries +5 VDC at a fairly high current level, so you don't want that to come loose and go bouncing around inside the customer's PC. I use these when I run out of motherboard headers and need an extra internal USB header to power a card reader or similar internal USB device.

Tip: The red wire pin connects to the +5VDC pin on the device you wish to power.

Expensive, but worth it, if you need another internal USB port.

This thing is awesome! I used up all of my motherboard usb connectors (water cooling a CPU and both graphics cards). What I really like is that the water coolers only need a 4-pin connector, but if I use my motherboard connectors, then that means that I'm wasting another 4-pin connector (since each usb connector on the motherboard supports 2X 4-pin). With this, I was able to connect the water coolers to the regular USB on the back of my case. I have two holes in my computer case (for water cooling) and I used them to pass the water coolers' cables to the back of my case.

I love it, it's awesome!!

This USB (IDC) cable was exactly what I needed...I am using it to connect an internal (front case type) multi-card reader to the internal USB port of the Syba SD-VIA-5U 5-port (4+1) USB 2.0 PCI Card SYBA PCI USB 2.0 Controller Card 4+1 Ports - VT6202 I was using one of the front-facing computer USB mobo connectors losing the use of that USB port. The cable length was just right and works like a charm now giving me back the use of the front USB port.

I bought two of these and at first I didnt notice but one was wired incorrectly. Luckily I know my way aroiund wires and clips :) I just switched a few wires and it worked great :) As someone else said it would be nice if it was doubled rowed but heck they are cheap so what do you expect! I say job well done just check the wires first to make sure the colors match up to your usb in the right order!

Very handy. We used it to bring external USB female ports inside as a header.
The reverse of the product descripton. Would have liked to have a double male
terminating in a 9 pin male cable header. Will be very helpful with internal ports on expansion cards.
