5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile, multi-zone / multi-room amp, March 30, 2010

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Adcom GFA-6006 70-Watt 6-Channel 3-Zone Multi-Room Amplifier (Electronics)
I bounce between having separates and integrated receivers. I've owned amps from Onkyo, Carver, Sunfire, Harman Kardon (and Citation), Audiosource, and pre-amps/receivers from Onkyo, HK, and Carver. I've kinda shied away from Adcom in my critical listening arenas, preferring the sound of my Citations with my Infinity Crescendos, etc. But, recently I was wanting to have a standalone scalable amp to feed speakers in my bathroom, kitchen and patio.

I had daisy chained various amps or used splitters, but I happened upon this 6 channel amp from Adcom. First, it's very "versatile". Each channel has a line in and a pass-through line out via RCA. So, you can daisy chain the channels together, for 3 stereo zones. Or, you can bridge the channels, to yield a 3 channel amp. You can also adjust the sensitivity of each channel. And, if you're having a ground loop problem, lift the ground with a switch on the amp. Genius.

The amp has three power modes. Off. On. Auto. So, I have this amp hooked up to the line out on my Onkyo M-282 amp (which I use to power a pair of speakers beside my TV, and use my TV as the pre-amp) and set to Auto. When I turn my TV on, the Onkyo and Adcom fire up, and bingo, I have whatever's on my TV in my living room, kitchen, bathroom and patio. I've installed in-wall volume control knob, an outdoor volume control knob, and a desk top volume control knob for each "zone" to regulate the volume locally. This amp has been superb.

I never have to think about firing up the surround sound (which I prefer for select movies or TV shows or gaming, not really for watching Oprah, or March Madness), this pipes the game or Jeopardy or whatever throughout the house. It's great. Grab a beer in the kitchen, my favorite periodical in the can, or check the steaks on the grill, I don't miss a play.

There are no controls or switches on the front. I've never been a fan of the look of Adcom, but the sound is great for a multi-zone amp without having to deal with weird proprietary connectors or controllers. RCA's and binding posts for speaker cable. Easy.

I'd go a different direction for a home theater amp, but for a multi-room stereo configuration, this amp can't be beat.
