Synthetic Revelry,
By Dirk Hugo (Cape Town, South Africa) - See all my reviews

This is a far more accomplished offering than Add N To X's previous "Avant Hard" album. From the onset, this trio of antique synth and organic drum dabblers builds insistent grooves with a pleasantly cheesy edge. There's a well-balanced focus on both the rhythmic gains that have been made in the techno arena over the last few years and the undeniable cuteness of synth-pop tunes from several decades ago. They're also not afraid to try their hand at the vocoder, an instrument which has become all to fashionable of late.

The Best Yet,

Add N to X thankfully keep on getting better and better! And it's almost like theyre morphing into the world's best retro-futuristic minimalist jam band. Not what you'd expect from three analog synths and a drummer, they definitely rock on this album and the compositions are better that ever...sometimes majestic sounding, some times infused with a punk attitude, some times melodic or bluesy, the album runs the gamit while retaining a higher level of cohesion than on past albums. And they definitely jam, use cool sounds and almost fusion-y, often rump shaking beats. I'm really enjoying it, and well, of course I recommend it!

This was the secound album I bought from Add N to X, its a great piece of work. Its a very gritty synthesizer driven album done with vintage synths and a real drummer (as apposed to a drum machine). I also like their use of the vocoder. This record is a little more pop than "On The Wires of Our Nerves."
