A Woman Who Rocks,
This review is from: Addicted To the Motion (Audio CD)
I enthusiastically have to echo the comments of the other reviewers. This album gets the heart pumping and can cause spontaneous dancing, or in the event you're driving, mad thumping on the steering wheel.
I discovered Gwin while looking around for different versions of "Ain't No Sunshine." I liked hers and went looking for what else she'd done. I found this album, bought it and it's still one of my favorites to get me moving--whether it's getting ready in the morning, cleaning the house or preparing for a night out. There are so many female artists that have that breathy voice thing going on these days--and not that many of them aren't talented--but it is a pleasure to hear a woman who sings and who plays mad, energized guitar while doing it. And the songs as a whole are of a kind, not in terms of musical style, but good, clever lyrics and solid melodic lines. Really enjoyable. Looking forward to more.

A solid slab of 70s-style hard rock,

Funky, fuzzy guitar leads and catchy riffing over throbbing rhythms add up to a smile that just won't quit. Her wah-wah solo in "Don't Say It" may have you chortling with glee. In a just world, "What Else Could I Say" and "Yesterday & Days Before" would be all over the radio. Spencer's muscular guitar playing well suits the material. I'd like to hear her cut loose more than she does on this album. Her voice, though pleasant enough, doesn't give the songs the kick her guitar does, not the way I keep imagining Jo Beth Dunn's voice would. But The Mother Station is gone, and I guess I'll have to move on. Spencer did, and the result is a hard-rock delight.

I'm An Instant Fan!,
By Kent Merritt (Sherman Oaks, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Addicted To the Motion (Audio CD)
I can't remember the last time I was so satisfied with buying a CD! These days you're lucky if you get one or two good songs on a CD. This album is packed with fantastic music, great musicianship, great production values, and most importantly great songs, from start to finish! It's really satisfying to hear an artist with a passion for rock and the blues, and the songwriting skills to match that passion. These songs are so much better than anything you hear on the radio these days, it's ridiculous! I don't know who this artist is, all I know is I'm an instant fan! Five stars plus!!!
