Book Description

April 1, 2005

Born to shop. A woman’s place is in the mall. We laugh at the stereotype of woman shoppers, but the reality is that millions of women struggle with handling money. With compassion and understanding, Karen O’Connor helps women evaluate their spending habits through questions that include:

  • Does spending money make you feel better?
  • Do you shop when you’re under stress?
  • Do you dread having your money–handling habits exposed?

From excessive shopping to penny–pinching, from splurging to refusing to buy necessities, Karen explores the reasons behind the misuse of money. Then, drawing on her experiences and biblical insights, she reveals practical strategies readers can use to develop a healthy view of money and regain control of their spending.

3.0 out of 5 stars women who spend to much and ...Christianity, November 17, 2005

This review is from: Addicted to Shopping and Other Issues Women Have with Money (Paperback)
This book had a some good ideas and some interesting stories about real people that have issues with money. The part I didn't like was the smattering of bible verses and the near constant mention of Jesus, God or the bible (this was the focus of the 40 + page recovery section). This book is great if you want to hear about overshopping and the christian perspective and christian way to recover but if you are looking for something that just deals with women and money in a more secular way, this is not for you. The book title, back cover and description should have given more of an indication that religion would be a focal point of the book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just touched the surface of the problem; too many personal testimonies, August 29, 2006

As a Christian woman, I was hoping this book would really help with my problem of overspending, but it didn't! I don't even plan to finish reading the last 60 pages of the book. I'm looking for a book that goes more into depth on how to solve the problem, and I personally don't believe 12 step programs are the key to solving shopping addictions. Had I known this book so heavily relied on testimonies, I would not have purchased it.

Shopaholizm is a real problem worldwide. I love shopping and now after reading this book, I am more aware of the traps of addiction in wich I can fall. I was interested to learn what motivates people to shop sometimes even unnecessary items. The book also contains information of clubs and specialized centers that can help us to overcome this obsession.
