3.0 out of 5 stars An ok song, an ok single
"Addicted to You" was a song during Utada Hikaru's Distance era. The song is ok, but to be honest Utada sounds really bored singing it. Sounds like she doesn't want to song, but the song has very catchy parts like "Keep me addicted" and "I think I'm addicted to you." The second song is "Addicted to You [Underwater Mix]" and it's slower and more laid back then the...

She is a singing angel, she is not even 20 and no, her name is not Britney, Christina, Jessica not even Brandy or Monica. American-born Japanese singer Hikaru Utada just shines in this Jam-Lewis produced track that is at times reminiscent of Janet Jackson but somehow mantains a unique Hikaru sound without paralel. Her lyrics, about a girl, who wants to be an adult to make public a love affair, are attractive and enhanced by her strong voice, in a sad but still funky tone. The music -at least for the original mix- is so cool and close to American pop music that makes you wait for the Lisa Lopez rap verse. Great tune, the material is much better than the singles (pretty good too) from her album "First love".

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally addicted!, March 21, 2000
This review is from: Addicted to You (Audio CD)
Track list: Up-in-Heaven mix -5mins21s/ Underwater mix -6mins17s/ Up-in-Heaven instrumental/ Underwater instrumental. An irresistible song spun out over funky rhythm and beats provided by the Kings of contemporary r n b -Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. This opens with a harp playing a la THE BOY IS MINE by Brandy & Monica and is very similar in style. At five and a half minutes, you get more than enough to satisfy. AND if one wasn't enough, you also get a remix by Jam and Lewis that is more THATS THE WAY LOVE IS -very sophisticated and funky pop-soul. Written by the talented teen herself, this is a first rate track -guaranteed to seduce you. The vocals, sung in sweet Japanese, are spot on, enticing and building up all the way to the final English-spoken line, "I think I'm addicted to you". The production is red hot with typical Jam & Lewis sounds keeping you listening closely -even after ten spins! If you haven't caught on to Hikaru yet, then buy this and be blown away. From a forthcoming album that is going to be HUGE! Check out the previous set, FIRST LOVE and share the love. AND if you're interested, get your hands on the new CD by Mylin (sung in English) and the more dance -oriented Ayumi Hamasaki, for extra Japanese listening pleasure! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND WORTH EVERY EXTRA DOLLAR!

Simply put, this single is amazing. Utada, once again, will amaze the audience with her amazingly beautiful and mature voice. It is hard to believe that a 16 year old is able to sing about hidden feelings of love with such passion. With the hook line "ima otona ni naritakute/ikinari narinakute/ oh baby/ kimi ni addicted kamo" (i want to become an adult right now, but i can't suddenly, oh baby, i think i'm addicted to you), it is a jawdropper that someone at her age could sing that with such meaning. Even for the Non-Japanese speaking listener, this track will not dissappoint you. When Utada sings the first line, many will blink in amazement that what she is singing is in fact Japanese. It has appeal and it would not surprise me if this single became a hot jam for DJs around US clubs to be spinning on their turntables. The instrumentals are captivating enough to listen through without the click of the "fast forward" button. The deep bass and the funky beats show definite signs of R&B and Hip-Hop influences, and yet she still manages to pull it of as a memoriable Japanese Pop track. Despite it's high price which is common for most Japanese releases, it is definitely worth the buy. It is currently playing in my car stereo, my md player, and I have it on my computer. I bought the single when it first came out, and I grow to like it more and more each time I listen to it even 6 months after its release. Another good buy is her most recent single, "Wait and See~risuku."

5.0 out of 5 stars A great song!, February 16, 2000

This review is from: Addicted to You (Audio CD)
This has to be one of my favorite recent tunes. I am a big fan of R&B, and this song would fit right in on american airwaves. It has a laid-back groove, and an exremely catchy chorus. Unfortunately, this makes me a little more impatient for her next album :)

Here's a little about the artist: Born in the U.S. (her father is a record company exec, and her mother was a famous blues singer in Japan), "Hikki" had one english release here, under her psuedonym, Cubic U. That didn't sell so well at first, but after her first Japanese language smash CD came out, "First Love", Cubic U became a hot seller (in Japan) as well. First Love's sales were helped from the fact that it's title track was the theme of a popular Japanese drama series. At the young age of 17, her "First Love" album became the fastest selling debut in Japan's history.

Now, with "Addicted To You", Hikaru shows a more mature sound, produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis (producers of Janet Jackson). I highly recommend this single and the "First Love" album to any R&B fan, they are both great. FYI, this CD Single contains the following 4 tracks:

1: Addicted To You (Up-In-Heaven Mix)
2: Addicted To You (Underwater Mix)
3: Addicted To You (Up-In-Heaven Mix instrumental)
4: Addicted To You (Underwater Mix instrumental)

5.0 out of 5 stars Addicted to you by Hikaru Utada, January 1, 2000

I think that Addicted to you is an amazing single from Hikaru Utada. If you like R&B type music, you will love this single. I actually recieved the CD from a friend that lives in Tokyo and she said that Hikaru Utada is a huge pop singer in Japan. Even though I can not understand much Japanese, I think that it is well worth it to get the CD. It has a great beat to it and Hikaru still has her amazing voice. Also makes a great party music!

The single also comes with a karaoke track for both songs. I do recommend the single if you like the song or are collecting Utada's CD's. The songs themselves are a bit boring.

I was blown away by the sound of "Addicted to You"! You couldn't ask for a better follow-up single to "Automatic" and "Movin' on Out Without You." The lyrics are just dripping with passion ..the passion of a young girl who probably has a crush on an older man. I'm totally in love with the "Underwater Mix," with it's watery beats and sounds. Can't wait to see what's in store for the future!

5.0 out of 5 stars Utada Hikaru - Addicted to You, February 12, 2000
By
This review is from: Addicted to You (Audio CD)
Addicted To You is written and sang by Utada Hikaru who is just a sweet young girl of sixteen years old. American-born, she is in Japan now, undertaking her studies in the local schools there, who is said to have excellent results. If you bought her previous album, First Love, you would have realised the change in her image. Addicted To You with an R&B rap to it, has a nice rhythm that invites you to rock with the song. Produced and Arranged by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the instrumental mixes are also fabulous. Her first single, First Love, is also fantastic. First Love is also the main theme song for the popular Japanese Drama Serial, The Witch's Condition. Her record is the best-selling album in japan, beating Ayumi Hamasaki. Til now, her records still topped the charts in Singapore. I would like to recommend her other songs, also written by her, Automatic, Time Will Tell. These two songs are great, too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as..., February 20, 2000
This review is from: Addicted to You (Audio CD)
"Addicted to You" is okay. Just okay. The song has great lyrics. I was just disappointed with the music though. While I loved "First Love," "Automatic," and "Time will Tell," I wasn't crazy this song-- it's a song that takes time getting used to.
