Addicted to You is the first in a new series of very sexy romances I'm writing for Berkley Heat. (If you've read my books under Beth Kery, the content is very similar). The One Night of Passion series involves characters tied by family and friendship. Each couple has their own unique romance, but with the common theme of it starting with one wild, impulsive night of passion. The relationship might start with doubt and regret, but intense passion will always guide the way to love ever after.

I hope you will look for two very sexy E-specials from Berkley in 2012 set in Katie's and Rill's One Night of Passion world. In addition to those two stories, look for Katie's brother Everett's novel  in 2012 as well!

Movie writer and director Rill Pierce and Katie Hughes have been friends for a long time. Katie's brother Everett is actually an actor and has worked with and been best friends with Rill since childhood as well. But when Rill's wife dies in a car accident, he becomes a broken man. He moves to Vulture's Canyon, Illinois - a very small, rural coal mining town to get away from everyone. He falls into drinking, has given up work and has become a total recluse.

Katie has not only been friends with Rill for a long time, but she has developed romantic feelings for him, though not acting on them when he was married. She cares deeply for him and can't stand the thought of him ruining his life. So she quits her job as a tax attorney to the rich and famous in Beverly Hills and takes a road trip out to Vulture's Canyon. When she gets there, Rill is so drunk, he doesn't even know who she is. Very slowly, Katie starts to break Rill of his downward spiral, all the while discovering herself in this odd, quirky little town.

Addicted to You by Bethany Kane is the first book in her new One Night of Pleasure series. Bethany Kane is actually the pen name for Beth Kery - who I think I've only read a few short stories from anthologies prior to this. I'm really impressed with this book. First of all, it is erotic. Maybe I should say EROTIC. The sex scenes are numerous and very explicit. Rill (who is Irish with an accent - swoon) is in a bad place when Katie finds him. We are told throughout the book that previous to his wife dying, he was a carefree, funny, charming man. He is none of that here. He is not only struggling with a dead wife, and a few secrets from his marriage, but his mother was a prostitute, dragging Rill to a new man's house every night growing up.... This fear of becoming her, or becoming one of his degenerate uncles, won't leave him. He is terrified of losing control, so at first he makes her bound her hands, so have some semblance of control.

I will say the very first chapter made me say WTF a few times. I was confused and honestly a bit put off by what happens. But carry forth - because it all comes to an understanding as you read the book.

While Rill takes on a life changing transformation, Katie finds some insight as well. Never super happy in her former high-powered tax days, she embraces this rural town much more than Rill does. The locals are quite the characters and provide a nice backdrop to this story.

I really loved the journey Rill and Katie go on. It is not an easy one. Rill has to overcome many demons. It really packs an emotional punch along with some very erotic scenes. Read more ›

STORY BRIEF:
Rill was a famous Hollywood writer director. His wife died in a car accident 18 months ago. He took off with no destination in mind and ended up in a small town in southern Illinois. He's been living there as a recluse, not working, and drunk most of the time. Katie and her brother were best friends with Rill for many years. Katie was a tax attorney in Los Angeles. She left her job to visit Rill to help him. She's been in love with him for years but he never knew it. When she first arrives, he is drunk and has sex with her without really knowing what he is doing. The next day he doesn't remember it. He's sexually attracted to Katie but doesn't act on it because he thinks he is a degenerate lecher sexually - like his mother. But with Katie's presence he stops drinking and eats better.

REVIEWER'S OPINION:
This author is really good at writing long sex scenes without being boring. I was surprised with that since I've recently read some other authors who had me skimming some sex scenes. So that is probably the strongest positive about this book. It feels like an Ellora's Cave book with the explicit sex. There is spanking, mild bondage, and rear door activity. At times I was shaking my head thinking "these guys are crazy." Rill wants her, doesn't want to want her, thinks he's a degenerate, insults her, hurts her feelings and is kind of stupid about it. This is one of those "character feels one way but acts another way." I normally don't like that if used as a main source of conflict. But in this case it didn't bother me because I just found him to be "crazy and illogical." Katie's character loves him, wants him, is willing to take whatever abuse he dishes out, and plans to keep staying with him....

Later in the story there was some "poor communication" between the couple (creating conflict) which wasn't as interesting as I would have liked. Some side stories include Katie accidentally injures a mentally challenged man and helps him with his physical therapy. A resort/casino developer is attracted to Katie. Rill has questions about his former wife and his mother.

Let me first start off by saying I LOVED THIS BOOK! From the opening pages, I was hooked. The descriptions are wonderfully vivid, the characters are brilliant and brought to life through flawless dialogue, there's an abundance of humour, a heaping helping of erotica, and a heart-warming, impossibly addictive love story at its root.

Rill Pierce. You'll fall in love with the man before you even get a chance to know him. He's an Irishman (points for that), with sexy, rugged looks (more points), he wears jeans like they were made for him (major points for that), and has a head of hair that you'll ache to sink your fingers into (infinity points). And Katie Hughes--the headstrong, independent, determined, affectionate, nurturing, glorious Katie Hughes. Her hair is like her personality--wild and reckless and free, but dependable and permanent too.

Following the tragic death of his wife, Rill holes up in a dilapidated house in the hills, drowning his sorrows in whiskey. Katie appears on his doorstep, the vision of an angel in his drunken stupor, and he ravages her like a starving man. It soon becomes apparent that the only person with a memory of their frantic night of passion is Katie. Rill gives her the cold shoulder, demanding for her to leave time and time again, but Katie won't budge. She stands by him, nurtures him, consoles him, and teaches him how to laugh again (and to love again). She brings him back to life, and gives him a new purpose for living. She makes him crazy--with longing, with fury, with insatiable lust--and he makes her sane.

Katie and Rill grow closer when Rill finally surrenders to her, giving in to the passion that consumes him.... No woman has ever had the power to unleash the beast inside him, until Katie. Now that it's loose, there's no going back. Let's pause here and talk about some of those delicious erotic scenes. They are off-the-charts hot! The pantry scene left me panting, the belly-dancing scene made me want to dedicate my life to the art form, and the swing scene . . . Well, let's just say that everything is better in a swing!

While Katie charms her way into Rill's home and his heart, she does the same with the local townspeople. The cast of quirky characters that inhabit the tiny town are all unique and lovable in their own way. From the child-like Errol who happens to find himself under the front wheel of her car, to the stone-cold Monty who can't help but warm up to her effervescent personality. And then there's Miles Fordham, whose planned business venture turns the town upside down, pushing one outraged citizen over the edge.

Her urge to settle and make a life for herself in Vulture's Canyon leads to Katie finding a job--finally a fulfilling one. Rill tells her that he doesn't have any claim on her life or any say in how she plans her future, but he soon realizes the only definite thing he can see in his future is Katie.

There were so many surprises along the way, particularly the ending. There were so many glorious lines. If I could quote them all, we'd be here for days. Suffice it to say the writing is impeccable.
