4.0 out of 5 stars Hughes comes out of nowhere with another great release..., May 23, 1999
By QuBall8517@aol.com (New Hampshire, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Addiction (Audio CD)
You know, it's too bad that Glenn Hughes (former Trapeze and Deep Purple bassist/vocalist) doesn't receive that much attention these days. He's got a better, more soulful and emotion-inflected voice than 95% of other vocalists that are on the airwaves at the moment. Not only that, but his lyrics are better and more meaningful. Whatever, let most the public be caught up in schmoe dime-store music, it's their loss! Glenn is mainly known for his blues and funk stylings, which is only part time in evidence on Addiction. For the most part, this albums rocks but intelligently. Yeah, 7 out of the 10 studio cuts are good-to-great '90s hard rock and even some low rumbling metal. And "the voice" sounds as good as ever. Though I really love good grooves, the ballads - "Talk About It," "Blue Jade" and "I Don't Want to Live that Way Again" are just outstanding, well layered and overflowing with good ol' Hughes emotion. Overall, this album beats the pants off of three-quarters of music in the genre today.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Hughes "Power Soul" Voice Rocks On!, June 24, 2000
By Steven W. Rapp (Atlanta USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Addiction (Audio CD)
An excellent piece of work from Mr. Glenn Hughes that shows his true vocal ability and soulful range. Coming out after what was a difficult era in his life, Glenn is able to express his himself here without conviction. Highly recommended for anyone who was into the 1976 "Made in Europe" sound (The all-time #1 rock record in my opinion), OR any of the Purple-Bolin transistion albums, etc. Glenn also offers a bonus track here of "You Fool No One". I believe this was recorded somewhere in Texas, but not sure.

4.0 out of 5 stars ADDICTION To The Voice Of Rock, October 7, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Addiction (Audio CD)
Fourth release by former Deep Purple singer, Glenn Hughes, is one that displays the many dimentions of Glenn's powerful voice. Consider by many as "The God Of Voice", Hughes delivers and solid rock and roll performance that will simply blow you away! 'Addiction', features songs that talk about the painful troubles that those with chemical addictions go through. Songs like, "I Don't Want To Live This Way Again", a slow bluesy number that Hughes sings with such intensity and feel its scary. Another song that will grab your throat from the get go is the mid-tempo mover, "Cover Me". One thing is for sure, once you listen to, 'Addiction', there is no way you can help but be addicted to the powerful and soulful voice of Glenn Hughes.

4.0 out of 5 stars With Glenn, Heavier is Better
This is my favorite of Glenn's solo albums. It's the most agressive. It's not the kind of album I listen to over and over, but it's great to play once in a while. Read more
