Format: Paperback
Nutrition researcher Pam Killeen has authored a fantastic new book entitled Addiction: The Hidden Epidemic which chronicles all of the common sense answers to what she claims is "our #1 health problem." She shares how she set out to see if modern society is more addicted now more than ever before, how she overcame a variety of health complications (chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, chemical sensitivities) in her own life to become interested in studying nutrition to help others, how discovering the importance of consuming animal foods improved her health immediately, why sugar seems to get a free pass when it comes to addictions, how the combination of sugar and caffeine is ruining the health of the Western world, why sugar can be a gateway to other addictions, why consuming meat can never be an addiction as Dr. Neal Barnard claims, why a plant-based diet is being pushed on us (and it's not about our health!Read more ›

Originally I heard an interview with the author Pam Killeen on a radio show (super human), and I was very impressed with how intelligent she was. The level of honesty and experience she spoke with, led me to purchase this book.

I have spent countless hours reading and researching in the study of health, and this is by far one of the best comprehensive books on the subject. First and foremost Pam explains the link between good nutrition and diet as the contributing factor to overall health (both physical and mental). I have discovered a majority of the content of this book in my own research through hundreds of other books and papers, this book compiles far too much vital information to just pass by.

While I have personally dealt with addiction in the past, that's not at all relevant to my interest in the book, or my recommendation for others to read it. Even if you don't feel that you are addicted to anything, read this book and you may be a bit surprised by what you find.

If I could recommend just one book out of the hundreds out there on diet and nutrition, this would certainly be it.

The biggest impact this book had on me was that it gave me hope!! It was an very refreshing book, that deals with facts and methods that actually work.

More than five stars!

I'm a wife and mother of 3. I spend a lot of time studying nutrition. My husband is 5yrs clean and sober and getting his PhD to be a substance abuse counselor. Together, we hope to someday have a treatment center based on THIS book that focuses on nutrition for acheiving long term recovery along with physical and mental well-being. BUT WAIT!! This book is NOT just another book about how to get clean and sober! I have read MANY books on the topic of nutrition, everything from raw/vegan and vegetarian studies and opinions to the works of The Weston A. Price Foundation and while I respect many authors such as for their OPINIONS on diet... Pam Killeen has my utmost respect for not just giving her "opinion" of what should be done, but SHOWS you in a very comprehensive way of WHY we should do it! She gives resources for every stat in the book. She has no hidden agenda, she just puts it out there without any manipulation and THAT is only one reason why I love this book so much! If you or anyone you know is suffering from addiction, chronic illness and / or mood disorders then this is a **MUST read!** If your child has been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD or bi-polar, then this is a **MUST MUST read!** If you want to stop smoking... **MUST READ!** If you don't understand why you cannot lose weight or why you feel so depressed even though your following a low-fat 1200 calorie diet and exercising, READ THIS BOOK! I wish I could afford to buy a copy for everyone on the planet... I think it's THAT important for EVERYONE to *******READ THIS BOOK!******** I will use it as a reference tool over and over, as will my husband!

I don't have much to say because the book says it all. If you have a medical background the beginning might be a lot of review, but certainly the intricacies of addiction as it relates to nutrition are fascinating, as are all the professionals that are healing it with natural methods and have incredibly higher success rates than psychosocial or spiritual treatment alone. Get this book for anyone you know dealing with addiction or their family members.
