More About the Author

Dr. Reid K. Hester is the Director of the Research Division of Behavior Therapy Associates in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His professional career balances clinical work with consultation, research, and training in empirically supported approaches in substance abuse treatment. His research interest is in the area of development of computer software programs for substance abuse treatment. Currently he is evaluating the efficacy of a computer based brief intervention, the College Drinker's Check-up, in a NIAAA funded research project. Recently he has released the Drinker's Check-up (www.drinkerscheckup.com) and Moderate Drinking (www.moderatedrinking.com). Both web apps are evidence based.

He has written 3 books and 37 other publications in the area of substance abuse prevention and treatment. Dr. Hester was a recipient of a Tibbets award for excellence in Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) in 1997 and 2006. He has been a technical adviser and consultant to the World Health Organization (WHO), the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). He received his Ph.D. from Washington State University in 1979. When not working professionally, he enjoys riding his road bike, his motorcycle, swimming, and hiking.
