I consider 'Addiction Treatment: theory and practice' by Sandra Rasmussen to be of high relevance in the study, understanding, and treatment of addiction because the text contains informations that a serious student, a counselor, a college instructor, or a practicing professional in the field of addiction should know. The text describes origins, behaviors, effects, prevention, and intervention, and various programs devised for different types of addiction. The text is quite exhaustive in defining technical terms and various types of drugs and chemical substances applied in the field of learning by science community and scholars of addiction thereby making the text very reader friendly. Cited sources for further investigation and studies of the subject of addiction also can be found throughout the text. Topics treated in the text since the current edition still apply to what recent research in addiction supports for understanding, treating, and preventing the disease or problem of addiction. It is my believe that most likely the text will remain highly relevant in several unforeseen years to come.
