Turning away from alcohol and/or drugs,
By
This review is from: The Addiction Workbook: A Step-by-Step Guide for Quitting Alcohol and Drugs (New Harbinger Workbooks) (Paperback)
The workbook allows one to view his/her compulsion to drink and/or use drugs from multiple perspectives, to better realize the consequences and to make a reasoned choice about whether or not to embrace sobriety. It then gently guides one into early recovery, giving tips and support for making important changes in life so as not to return to alcohol and/or drugs. Fanning writes in short, clear sentences so that the book is very easy to understand, and shows great compassion for those who are burdened by the terrible compulsion that is addiction.

This book has the basis information a person needs to quit their addiction. Is the same basic principles that rehabilitation programs used. Except that in the rehab you have a team a people that help you and the AA/NA meetings are all day.

This book provides some information and a vague guideline on the treatment of addiction; good as a self help tool for individuals.

Don't waste your money,

This workbook was not worth the paper it was printed on. It's filled with things that most addicts already know and has about 5 pages of ridiculous "worksheets" that anyone with common sense could come up with using minimal though. For example "keep a feelings journal". Just my opinion but don't waste your money. I've been clean for over a year and I think the money I spent on drugs was worth more than this workbook. At least the drugs did something for me. This book is now my cats scratching toy. My suggestion really do your research before picking a addiction workbook.
