After my desktop computer died, I still needed all the data on my hard drive. It was fairly easy to install my Maxtor hard drive into this product, and now I can use it as an external hard drive. I do wish that the power cord were longer, but that's my only complaint. I can put this hard drive enclosure anywhere, and not even have it laying flat, and it works. It's rather sturdy.

very pleasant buying experience. Came much faster than expected, even though I didn't get express shipment. Product is exactly what I was looking for, works exactly as they said it would. Couldn't have been any easier to put together and hook it up. I have absolutely no negative thing to say about the entire transaction.

I had a 120G IDE drive laying around and bought this unit to turn it into a portable backup device using USB. I had the drive installed in 5 minutes and backed up my two computers same day. With Win XP there are no drivers needed. It behaves just like a memory stick, where XP self-installs the drivers on first use and then assigns a new drive letter to it. So it is not confined to backup use but can serve any storage purpose.
Although I didn't measure the backup times it was plenty fast on both my newer machine (USB 2) and my older one (USB 1). They do give a driver disk for Win 98 though I haven't tried it. All in all a good unit if you have a spare drive collecting dust.
