A Well-Rounded Band,
By "hornet845" (Cleveland, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adema (Audio CD)
You know, I don't get it, everyone gives Adema a bad rap, saying "They are just another nu-metal band, and have no real talent." I'll agree with one part, they are a nu-metal band, but they far exceed most of the other ones out there. Adema can write it all, from fast intense songs (Giving In) to slow well developed songs, which rely more on lyrics than guitar riffs (Speculum). Sure, the singer is related to Jon Davis, but other than in Giving In, he really distances himself from his half brother, only sounding like him on some occasions. Anyway here's a track breakdown:1. Everyone - A good opening song, really captures the feeling of the album. 4/5 Before you say, "Oh, he's just another nu-metal fan, he doesn't know metal." I'll just tell you that I am a huge Metallica, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Pantera, and Guns 'N Roses fan. Keep this album in mind for you next [purchase].

My Favorite Album This Year So Far,
By Michael Crane (Orland Park, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adema (Audio CD)
I only heard the songs, "the way you like it," and "giving in" when I decided to buy Adema's album. Actually, I didn't realize that "giving in" was done by them until I got the CD, which was a very nice surprise. I really didn't know much about the band and I really hadn't heard anything else about them. Never read magazine articles on them, never saw them on MTV, and rarely even heard them on the radio. So why, you might be asking, did I buy the album when I only heard two songs (or really one song) by them? I like to be surprised. I like to pick up CDs by bands I've never heard if it looks interesting enough. I really had no idea what the reaction would be as soon as I popped this CD into my stereo. Well, it has to be said; I LOVE EVERY SINGLE THING ABOUT THIS ALBUM!The lead singer has an awesome voice that can be soft or yelling and screaming at times. There is some excellent guitar playing that will get stuck inside your head no matter how hard you try to get it out. The drumming is intense and ties all of the songs together magnificently. What I was most impressed by the group was their lyrical ability. If you listen to the actual words in the songs, they are so deep and very well constructed. Sure some verses may not rhyme exactly, but that isn't the point. It's very rare to find a music group that can put the exact right words into a song. I think most of the songs were written lyrically by the lead singer, as it usually is in most cases. All I can say is the guy has talent. He is able to drive out every single emotion inside your body. The big thing about these guys is that the lead singer is related to Korn's Jonathan Davis. So what? I mean, that's interesting and all, but what does that have to do with these guys. And the people who call them Korn...and so on really agitate me, because they have no friggen clue of what these guys are about. Hey, I love Korn, but I'll go on the record and say that these guys are ten times better than Korn when it comes to song writing. Well, that's how I feel, and it had to be said. I really can't list my favorite songs, because I LOVE EVERY SINGLE SONG ON THAT ALBUM. There is no bad song on the whole CD, which is extremely rare. But I think my absolute favorite song is "trust." I love the music and the lyrics. I mean; "I'm so alone / empty and lost / it's easier to let you go / time will erode / the shame and the fault / it's easier to let you go," it doesn't get any deeper than that! A word of warning, the songs tend to get very depressing, so you may not want to listen to the CD if you're feeling a little down in the dumps. Then again, maybe it'll make you feel better. Don't know, just thought I would warn you. How would you classify these guys? I wouldn't put them in heavy metal, and I sure as hell wouldn't consider them alternative. So what are they? Good question. I think they're a little in between; not too heavy, yet not too soft. A little like Papa Roach, except there's a lot more singing from the lead singer. Some songs are heavier than others. If you want to hear a good band with some outstanding lyrics, very much like the kind that can only come out of Trent Reznor or Aaron Lewis, then pick up this CD today. You will not regret it at all. I bought this CD a couple of months ago, and I can't stop listening to it. Let's hope radio stations like Q101 doesn't destroy them by overplaying their songs. Same goes for MTV. This is a great band that speaks for itself and really only needs one listening to realize how good this CD is.

Great new band with a unique sound!,
By Trevor McMullin (Aurora, CO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adema (Audio CD)
Adema is a great new band with a uniqe sound that is pleasing to the ear but still heavy enough for metal/rock enthusiasts. For anyone who enjoys vocals (no, not screaming, lead singer Mark Chavez actually sings in many of the songs!) with heavy guitars and fast drums. A few songs are fueled by anger, reflected in the lyrics, while others are softer and emotional. My musical tastes vary (from black metal to techno to classical) but I must say that Adema definately is something new and amazing and will leave a mark on the music industry.

Great Debut Album,
By A Customer
This review is from: Adema (Audio CD)
This is a really great cd, its got to be one of my favorites in my collection. It kinda reminds me of Linkin Park, but better. Although "Marky" tries almost too hard to sound like his older brother Jon Davis on some songs. Sure, this is nu-metal, but it's actually good! Some highlights are: Giving In, Freaking out, and Drowning. Adema reminds me of Linkin Park meets KoRn. Although I really think this is a great cd, I still dont think it was worth breaking up Videodrone over (the ex-drummer Kris Kohls left Videodrone for Adema). But don't wait to buy it; ...go out and buy yourself a copy now! You'll be glad you did (and so will Adema).

UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME!!!,
This review is from: Adema (Audio CD)
First and foremost, this is an album for ROCK fans. If you like bands such as Godsmack, Korn, Drowning Pool, Papa Roach, Disturbed, or so on, then you will definitely love this cd . This is by far my favorite album in my entire collection. I CANT STOP LISTENING TO IT!!! Every single freaking song on here rocks. The best song in my opionon however is not Giving In, like most people seem to say, but The Way You Like It. Best song ever!!! All i can say is that i wish they would come back together and make another album.

Solid album, with a couple of real standouts,
By

I'll admit, I first became aware of Adema because I've been a huge fan of KoRn. And like many people, I first heard the band by seeing the "Giving In" video on MTV. However, the album really stands on its own merits, musical connections and popular support aside. Most of the songs get into themes of angst and disappointment. The tone ranges from melancholy contemplation ("Close Friends," "Giving In") to unbridled anger ("Drowning," "Freaking Out"). But there's more than just the standard [ticked]-off vibe running through this disc. The album closes with the surprisingly poignant "Trust," a sad-but-hopeful look at relationships that is nothing short of beautiful. Not to downplay the rest of the songs--but I would seriously recommend buying the album based on this track alone. Elsewhere on the disc, "Speculum" and "Skin" strike a similar emotional chord. Don't pigeonhole this album as the standard aggro-rock--there's beautiful stuff going on here. To satisfy the curious radio listeners and MTV-watchers--yes, there are songs on this album that are as good as or better than "Giving In" and "The Way You Like It." I'd describe this album as a collection of many good songs, a few great songs, and one gem that absolutely shoots into the stratosphere ("Trust").

This band may have Jonathan Davis's half brother....,
By CathodeParticleShift (Southgate, MI USA) - See all my reviews

When I first heard this band on MTV2, I figured that this was just another one of those Nu-Metal bands trying to repeat after how the genre was started. However, after actually buying the CD, I realized that this band has a great sound and is better than most other Nu-Metal bands out there. Adema combines tracks with heavy metal superiority (Drowning, Close Friends, and Blow It Away) and some metal and electronic mixing greatness (The Way You Like It, Freaking Out) that puts this CD above groups like Orgy, Korn, and Linkin Park (all current favorites of mine). I haven't put this CD away for weeks. To serious metal fans, this CD will do this to you. Of course, KoRn still rules over this band in my book.

Great cd,

This one of the few cd's that I actually put in my cd player and listen to every song. It has the heaviness which I love. But the songs also have meaning. And I can argue about being the number 1 LP fan, but thats besides the point. If anybody likes the new nu metal stuff, then you won't be dissapointed with this. Alos check out a bamd called soil. Not to many people know of them, but they are killer. Check em out.

this is adema not korn,
By Sherrie Rogers (Walla Walla..I mean Stewie, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adema (Audio CD)
I really getting sick and tired of people comparing Adema to Korn, seriously I am. For the first part, Korn is more of a grunge rock, were as Adema is a Hard rock, to almost a metal. Here is the rundown of the songs:Everyone: (5/5) Good song, it builds up for a great song. Get to the chorus and you'll love it. Blow it Away: (3/5) Probably the only song I don't like. "I need your failure sometimes..." The song doesn't really grab, it is still better that a lot of songs I have ever heard. Giving: (5/5) We all know this song for the most part im sure. It is a slow hard rock song that, gives you the feeling of all hopelessness. It is a hard song not to like. Freaking Out: (3/5) This song is pretty good, I don't like the rap part they have. Otherwise a good song to listen to, it gets you pumped up and ready to take on the day. The Way you Like it: (5/5) A good song I love this song really I do. The rap part works well with the song, it is a unique good song that I am sure you'll like. The chorus, sends chills up and down my spine, I love it. Close Friends: (4/5) This is were the Orgy comparissons come in. I guess those are justified. But it is still an Adema song that you'll notice right away like I did. A good song I like it a lot. Do What you want to do: (2/5) The only song that reminds me of Korn. But it is better than any korn song I have ever heard. Not my favorite cut of the album, could do without. Skin: (5/5) I love this song, it is kind of a ballad but you realize it is not, with the the chorus. It is an agressive song in its own way. Mark Chavez does a good job of making this song work. Pain Inside: (5/5) Another super awsome song that I LOVE! This song tells you that you are not the only one as far as feeling hopeless. This is a good song, it is one of my favorite songs of all time. The ending is probably the best part of the whole entire song, it is a great song, with an excellent chorus. Great instrumentation. Speculum: (5/5) The ballad, good song. "I can not reach that soul." That is something that I haven't heard ever in the music I have listened to. This song is something you think of like your dead relatives, and all the good times you had with them. Drowning: (5/5) This is the song you listen to when you are angry. It is an agressive hard hitting song. You'll like it. Trust: (4/5) Good song excellent chorus, but is missing something. I don't know what it is missing but it is a somewhat crucial part. Overall the album, is a (5/5). I love this cd. I listen to lots of different kinds of bands, this is probably one of the best albums I have heard ever.

I had higher hopes.. but a solid cd otherwise,

The first single is fantastic... "Giving In" is by far the best song on the cd... not that the other tracks are horrible... but, overall... it would have been nicer to have a little more diversity...they do seem a tad bit similar... but... i suppose that they wanted to make a statement with this cd.. that THIS is what they sound like... don't confuse us with the 2 other bands that you might think we sound like (the beats and grinds sound a whole lot like a grown up Linkin' Park and the voice sounds like a nice illusion of John Davis from Korn)... ah well... i'm not saying that this is just a cookie cutter band... put out in a knee-jerk reaction by ARISTA records suddenly saying "heyyyy these kind of bands are popular right now... let's GET us one of them" That would be too simple... although i'm sure it helped ADEMA get looked at... All in all... if you like Linkin' Park... or Korn... or any band that has a tendency to plug it in and scream really loud... you will like this cd... it will be a nice addition to your collection... especially for it's very low price (i got mine at a local store for 7.99)... so... take a chance on it... you might like it... (and... please take note... that i am 30... and a definate korn kid at heart... so it's not a total knock that i say they sound like korn a little bit... it's one of the reasons that i gave them a listen... i love linkin' park also... so... i'm not totally saying forget ADEMA... they are worth the listen... but i can't help wishing for a whole album with the intensity of "giving in") |
