Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

If you can't get enough of the sort of smart, sensitive, and skillfully arranged pop songs proffered by Eric Matthews, Yum-Yum, and Tindersticks, look for the self-titled indie debut by the Washington, D.C., quartet Aden. Songs such as "Would You Have Stayed?" and "Cause of Your Tears" are beautiful, heartfelt, and romantic. Decorated by Mellotron and vibes and boasting stronger vocals than many like-minded combos (a key ingredient for this style of music), Aden is guaranteed to warm the coldest of hearts. --Jim Derogatis

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums ever made... July 11, 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Aden's first album is one of the best albums ever made. It is very rare that I hear an album which has no filler songs. Every song on the album is pure beauty. The guitars and Jeff's voice are very pretty and the mood brings to mind the soundscapes Stephen Merritt (Magnetic Fields) created on his albums. People compare this to the indie-rock band Seam, but I think Pedro the Lion, Holiday, and Cessna are far closer to the catchy pop songs Aden writes. This album is one of the top ten records ever made. The second Aden cd, ("black cow" on teenbeat records ), is the only other guitar oreinted album released in the 90's that comes even close to the gorgeous sounds captured on this album. The guitars sparkle, the bass lines walk like an autumn stroll, the drumming snaps, and the vocals are beautiful and unabrasive...cello and vibe over dubs occasionally are added. No more are there only four seasons, Aden is a season in itself, and you can take a trip there everytime you press play.

5.0 out of 5 stars SAD AND FUNNY! BUY IT! April 11, 1999
Format:Audio CD
this is a great cd. i mean it is a rather low-key affair, but it is really nice to hear something that is so touching and sweet. the lyrics pertain to that of relations and friendships and the sadness that permeates. i have seen them play and they are great. the lyrics to 'scooby-doo' are so funny and sad. thanks to jeff gramm for such a great album. please do yourself a favor, in the event of a relation-caused depression play this cd and realize that it is not that bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars ADEN March 1, 2000
Format:Audio CD
Exceedingly well done. The singer is a really nice guy. He is quite shy and seems to talk with a lisp. I had the plesure of meeting him at the Teanbeat record label annual festival at the Black Cat in Washington DC. (is it true that his father is Bill Grahm the senator?)
