Adesso must be applauded for having the guts to charge $100+ for this piece of garbage. The quality of materials and assembly in this lamp is equivalent or worse than a $30 Walmart lamp. Specifically: the switchbox in the middle of the lamp is made from very soft sheet metal and arrived with uneven finish and large gaps between its halves. The top rods that go into this box were screwed in unevenly and caused the sheets to separate even more (those were screwed in at the factory). The top of one of the rods that support the shade is crooked, so the whole assembly is slightly uneven. The bottom is made of very thin sheet metal that deforms when you try to tighten the nuts that attach the rods to the base. If you don't tighten the rods, the whole lamp sways and leans to the side. The uneven factory assembly of the top rods causes the lamp to be slightly crooked. The assembly threads are poorly machined and made of soft metal that never fully tightens, as the result the lamp is pretty unstable and sways for a few seconds after you turn it on. The lampshade attachment does not have any guides or alignment pins, as the result you need to guess the alignment, and the ring that secures the alignment is very thin and cannot be tightened well. The reading lamp bulb wobbles; my husband disassembled the lamp and it appears that the part that is holding the bulb is either mismatched with the rest of the holder or there is a spring missing. To add the insult to injury, the lamp arrived in a box filled with the lowest quality styrofoam, the kind that crumbles at the first touch and fills your house with tiny white pieces. The bottom line is that for this price you expect much higher quality materials and at least half-competent factory assembly. This product has neither. Instead, it is the worst example of cost cutting in materials and manufacturing. Even IKEA products will put this lamp to shame. This is the last Adesso product my family will purchase. What an expensive mistake.

I received and assembled my floor lamp today. Immediately upon opening the package, I knew I might be in for trouble. The unassembled lamp was packaged in the type of styrofoam that crumbles very quickly into many small bits that stick to everything. You know the type..it is the kind that even after vacuuming, you will be finding bits all over the house for a few days. All that just so Adesso could save a few cents. That type of penny pinching never bodes well for quality. That annoyance aside, the lamp is easy enough to assemble , but I can't say that I am especially happy with the end result. I put details below, but all in all, the lamp is OK. I'm not going to bother to take it apart and send it back for its faults, but I also would not buy it again knowing what I know now. It is not horrible, but I think it is overpriced for what it is.

First off, though the base is heavy and substantial, the way the lamp attaches to the base (2 attachment points with a washer and nut each) results in a lamp that sways a bit on the base when you touch it and also will torque with just light twisting of the two metal rods that make up the vertical rise of the base. I further tightened the connections, but the problem remains. This is my biggest complaint.

The Gooseneck reading light is easily adjustable (there is a stiff center to the extension, but it is flexible below and above that fixed area). I do feel that it will fail to hold certain positions over time though, as the flex areas already feel a bit overwhelmed by the weight of the reading lamp arm. We shall see.

There were minor imperfections in the frosted glass shade. Nothing too bad, but still worth noting.

The cord has areas that are sticky and discolored straight out of the box. Once again, not a huge deal, but it is indicative of the small quality issues that plague this piece.

I love this lamp. I use it everyday next to my computer desk. I am just crazy about the goose neck reading light. I can angle it in any direction for reading when I'm not using the computer. The top main lamp lights up the whole room. It was a little pricey, but worth it. I want one more for another room. I'm waiting for a sale. I would highly recommend it. Great quality, very well made and sturdy.
