Good tablet for fine pointing, works so so with linux,
This review is from: Adesso CyberTablet 6400 6" X 4.5" Graphics Tablet with 2 Button Pen and Wireless Mouse (Personal Computers)
This tablet will let you point and drag far more acurately than a good mouse or trackball. That being said this tablet is clearly inferior to even older wacom tablets in a few ways, but it is much less expensive. As a second tablet in a family or small office this tablet could provide all the features of a more expensive tablet by swaping it. ;)
Unlike the Wacom models this tablet pen requires a battery but a battery seems to last many many hours as I have not had to replace the first one yet. If you need a tablet and are a general computer user, graphics or photo enthusist and on a budget I'd definitely consider the Cybertablet 6400. It worked well for me creating an animation in flash mx and also worked fine in illustrator. I used it on XP pro. I also used it in linux with gimp and inkscape. ( more below) It hurts my hands to use mice so I have not tried the mouse. I use trackballs and tablets. Addtionally I don't really use digital tools that use the angle that pen comes in contact with the tablet so I don't have anything to say about it. The main reason I reach for a tablet is the comfort and Accruacy of useing refined movements of my fingers to control the point of the pen to precisely manipulate digital tools. This tablet and pen will help control where you point and move your tools and you can use it to control the pointer as you would a mouse to change settings and control the desktop. This tablet will help you place the postion of your digital tool with a similar functionaly to other tablets. One major difference is in the way the tablet and pen conbination delivers preasure sensitvity. The cybertablet pen tip retracts into the pen body. Pressing the pen tip into the body is how it seems to be 'pressure sensitive'. Certainly one has to apply pressure to get the tip to retract but as it retracts it feels more like pressing in further than pressing harder. It feels like more of a function of distance than presure. I found it easier to attempt to use the pen perpendicuarly to the tablet when using pressure sensitivity. Wacom pressure sensitiveity is in the tablet not the pen and is more authentically presure sensitive. LINUX (Gentoo x86, kernel 2.6, kde) I got rudmentary functionality in linux using the aiptek usb tablet driver. ( As root user type "modprobe aiptek") It has some quriks with maping the screen to the tablet but i found it usable in gimp. Most notablly I needed to place the windows and dialogs about an inch from the edges of the screen as the pointer would ocasionally 'stop short'. This may be related to my mouse acceleration setting in KDE. In linux, pressing in the pen tip translated to a standard left click. Presure sensitivity does not seem to work however. It seems the driver sees it as either pressed or not pressed. This is understandable given the driver was written for another tablet but happens to work with this one. You may be able to tweek things in a config file someplace but given the experience I had with preasure sensitivity in windows it's probably not worth the time to try to figure it out. I like swiching bettween this tablet and my kensington trackball. I am an intense comptuer user and so it's also good for fatigue reduction to swich off pointing devices a few times during the day. If you need a fine control input device and care mainly about where and not how hard then this tablet and pen are fine.

Buyer Beware,
This review is from: Adesso CyberTablet 6400 6" X 4.5" Graphics Tablet with 2 Button Pen and Wireless Mouse (Personal Computers)
Save yourself a lot of time, money and frustration.
I had sucessfully used a Wacom PenPartner for several years and, when I bought a new computer in December, decided to get a new pen. The driver that came with the Adesso CyberTablet is several years old and was very unstable. After a few minutes of use, the pen and included Adesso mouse, stop responding, although the mouse that came with computer still work fine. Rebooting the computer usually fixes the problem but the same thing happens again after a few minutes. Changing USB ports offers no help. When I went to the Adesso website the only driver they offered is also several years old. My letter to tech support was answered after several days. The tech support guy said that was the only driver they had and my tablet must be defective. If I would return the unit in the original shipping container with the original receipt they would send me a new unit. Having already wasted enough time and money I decided to order a Wacom and write the Adesso off to experience.

The pen and tablet work fine...they could leave out the $2.00 mouse. The tabs on the pen(R&L click) are very awkward to use so far.
Take some time to play with your settings...at first I hated the response but now it's OK and will be more useful with practice. The software is lightweight and poorly supported. I chose this over the $250 Wacom cause I'm not yet a pro and don't need the best or most expensive...and besides, the Adobe CS2 programs that I use it with are fantastic already.

BUYER BEWARE THIS SCAM,
This review is from: Adesso CyberTablet 6400 6" X 4.5" Graphics Tablet with 2 Button Pen and Wireless Mouse (Personal Computers)
The Adesso tablet requirements say Mac OSX but the one I just bought for my daughter only works with a FOUR YEAR OLD operating system - OS9.
The fine print in the manual (after you bought the thing) says check the site for new driver info. When you go to the site it tells you FILE NOT FOUND. Beware this SCAM!

Addeso 6400 - Ok, flakey software,

Well, The unit matches up to expectations once you get by startup issues. The software is a bit flakey, and the manual provides no help at all. The online FAQ provides some help, but again limited. I am still waiting for a response to my question to tech support, but figured out a workaround on my own. Seems you have to store the pen and the mouse off the top of the tablet when not in use or it will go stupid and not function after the computer goes into standby. The mouse is decent, but lacks the control one is accustomed to compaired even to a $15 cordless mouse. The pen works well, and the support in drawing software makes up for any lackings the product has. Overall, a good buy, just be aware of the support isssues and the software issues, oh and the mouse does NOT have a scroller wheel as listed in the description

Very unimpressed. The mouse jumps with every click and results in many miss-clicks when trying to select screen items or menu options, the mouse functionality is unacceptable. The pen on the other hand works well. I had to plug my old mouse back in to use in place of the poor quality wireless mouse that comes with the product.

Adesso Review,
This review is from: Adesso CyberTablet 6400 6" X 4.5" Graphics Tablet with 2 Button Pen and Wireless Mouse (Personal Computers)
I was thrilled when I received my adesso cyber tablet, it was so easy to use. I do a lot of editing of digital photos and it was such a pain to do this with a mouse!!! Within minutes I was up & running ready to work. I also like the idea of being able to use my signature & personal handwritting in my emails. great product, highly recommend.

Junk,

After reading the reviews, I realized there were varied results from those who had purchased the Adesso Cyber-tablet 6400. Since my daughter was going to use the pen and tablet in MS Paint, I thought it should work fine. Was I wrong! The wireless mouse was irratic and the the pen worked about 50% of the time. When the pen did work, it responded well after her mation started. Our computer is an average P-III Dell with plenty of memory. For the price, I expeced more.
Adesso, find a another line of work! Shopper, buy another product.

Waste of time...don't bother!,

I was so excited when I saw this tablet and it was reasonably priced. But when I received it I had major problems trying to install it. This isn't even worth the 1 star minimum that I was required to give it! If your a Mac person this will be the biggest waste of time for you. The installation software says that it is for both Mac and PC. It absolutely isn't! So I went to the Adesso website to see if there is a different driver that I could download. There was...it didn't work. The only thing I could get this tablet to do was open files that the cursor was on before I plugged it in! It wouldn't move the cursor at all. Seriously, don't waste your money on this piece of junk...invest the money and just buy a Wacom. At least they are dependable and worth the investment.

I recently purchased and Adesso cyber tablet and have had great success with it. I have used the traditional Wacom tablets in the past that are significantly more expensive and I find this to be a good beginning tablet for learning how to use digital interfaces.
