5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product - Best Price, August 13, 2005
This review is from: Adesso CYBER TABLET 8X6" GRAPHICS/DRAWING TABLET WITH 2-BTNUSB PEN AND MOUSE ( CYBERTABLET 8600 ) (Personal Computers)
I researched graphics tablets for several months prior to making this purchase through Amazon.com and I couldn't be happier!

I wanted a graphics tablet specifically as an addition to my Photoshop software and it has made a HUGE difference in not only the control and quality of my restoration projects, but in the speed with which I am now able to work.

Though I've used Photoshop for several years, I am still very much a novice - so anything that can help me work faster obviously means I become more productive.

Throughout my research into graphics tablets, I heard horror stories about pens that were too sensitive or tempermental and work areas that were too small. Prices were also a big concern for me and I nearly fainted the first time I saw the prices for some of the "top-of-the-line" tablets recommended by professional graphic artists. There was no way I could afford to spend as much as $2,500 for anything that my life didn't depend on! The Adesso 8x6 is not only the best size for me, the pen is perfect for my work and within minutes of opening the box and installing the software, I was fast at work. I dare anyone to find the same size tablet with a better price and quality than this one.

For anyone, especially a beginner or someone wanting the convenience of using a tablet without the expense and complications of more expensive models, this is perfect for you. I looked a many tablets from the small 4x6 sizes up to the very large 12x14 models, and of course in nearly every model, the larger the tablet, the bigger the price. Except for this Adesso model. Amazon.com had, by far, the best price for this size tablet, and believe me I looked everywhere - even for the same tablet at major retail stores and everyone else online was at least $15-20 more expensive and most often they only had the 4x6 size.

Although this tablet was only around $105, I purchased the replacement plan from Amazon.com just to be on the safe side. Like I said, price was a big factor for me so I wanted to make certain if anything happened, I would be able to replace the product.

I would recommend this tablet to anyone looking for a great product with the perfect work size for most projects. It's a great tablet, right out of the box, and the additional software "freebies" that are included make it a fantastic deal. With this tablet you will be able to add tremendously to what you are able to do with even your basic projects.

Good Luck and have fun.

3.0 out of 5 stars Go for quality over area, December 26, 2006

This review is from: Adesso CYBER TABLET 8X6" GRAPHICS/DRAWING TABLET WITH 2-BTNUSB PEN AND MOUSE ( CYBERTABLET 8600 ) (Personal Computers)
My first tablet was the Adesso Cyber Tablet 8X6". At the time, I thought that a larger tablet area was more important than a good name brand, but found otherwise. The Adesso was huge (that large molded plastic fringe is pretty but dysfunctional). The pen was moody - sometimes needed huge pressure, sometimes not, generally didn't work well unless it was plugged in when I booted the computer. More importantly, several key features didn't work - the pen sensitivity never worked in my favorite graphics program (Xara), and I couldn't set the function key areas to do what I wanted. (If I could really have made them operate the graphics software, my opinion might be very different!)

Anyway, I just bought a Wacom Graphire4 4x5" tablet instead (note, the name-brand smaller Wacom is CHEAPER than this Adesso), and it truly makes a big difference. The pen sensitivity works, the tablet settings software works and has online help for questions. There are two buttons actually on the tablet - plus a scrollwheel - that you can program *by keystroke* for them to execute - so I can set them to the most common things I reach for the keyboard to use. (I would have liked 12 of those!)

And in practice, 4x5 is a better size than 6x8 - enough resolution (and I have a 1680x1050 display) and less tiring than a bigger tablet, and doesn't take up so much *room* on the desk.

If you can pay a little more and are wondering whether to go for area or quality - I recommend quality in these devices. I really do prefer the 4x5 *very* high quality Wacom over the 6x8 Adesso.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not up to speed with Wacom's products, October 13, 2005

This review is from: Adesso CYBER TABLET 8X6" GRAPHICS/DRAWING TABLET WITH 2-BTNUSB PEN AND MOUSE ( CYBERTABLET 8600 ) (Personal Computers)
I use a Wacom tablet at home, but at work we have the Cyber Tablet since the larger Wacom wasn't in the budget. I think this product would be fine if you're not using it in a work environment, eight plus hours a day. The button on the pen doesn't always work, and I end up having to grab the mouse to right click for my pop-up menus in InDesign and Photoshop. Also when using the pen, it doesn't always release exactly where it should when I'm dragging guides or image/text boxes. All too often I end up usingthe arrow keys to get the placement I need. Fine tuning the tablet's settings hasn't really helped any of that.

If you're a graphic artist needing a pen tablet for daily use in a production environment, I'd recommend buying a Wacom tablet instead. These little glitches definitely slow down my productivity. If you want a cheaper tablet for a hobby, this is probably fine.
