This review is from: Adesso CYBER TABLET 8X6" GRAPHICS/DRAWING TABLET WITH 2-BTNUSB PEN AND MOUSE ( CYBERTABLET 8600 ) (Personal Computers)
I researched graphics tablets for several months prior to making this purchase through Amazon.com and I couldn't be happier!I wanted a graphics tablet specifically as an addition to my Photoshop software and it has made a HUGE difference in not only the control and quality of my restoration projects, but in the speed with which I am now able to work. Though I've used Photoshop for several years, I am still very much a novice - so anything that can help me work faster obviously means I become more productive. Throughout my research into graphics tablets, I heard horror stories about pens that were too sensitive or tempermental and work areas that were too small. Prices were also a big concern for me and I nearly fainted the first time I saw the prices for some of the "top-of-the-line" tablets recommended by professional graphic artists. There was no way I could afford to spend as much as $2,500 for anything that my life didn't depend on! The Adesso 8x6 is not only the best size for me, the pen is perfect for my work and within minutes of opening the box and installing the software, I was fast at work. I dare anyone to find the same size tablet with a better price and quality than this one. For anyone, especially a beginner or someone wanting the convenience of using a tablet without the expense and complications of more expensive models, this is perfect for you. I looked a many tablets from the small 4x6 sizes up to the very large 12x14 models, and of course in nearly every model, the larger the tablet, the bigger the price. Except for this Adesso model. Amazon.com had, by far, the best price for this size tablet, and believe me I looked everywhere - even for the same tablet at major retail stores and everyone else online was at least $15-20 more expensive and most often they only had the 4x6 size. Although this tablet was only around $105, I purchased the replacement plan from Amazon.com just to be on the safe side. Like I said, price was a big factor for me so I wanted to make certain if anything happened, I would be able to replace the product. I would recommend this tablet to anyone looking for a great product with the perfect work size for most projects. It's a great tablet, right out of the box, and the additional software "freebies" that are included make it a fantastic deal. With this tablet you will be able to add tremendously to what you are able to do with even your basic projects. Good Luck and have fun. Raven

Go for quality over area,

My first tablet was the Adesso Cyber Tablet 8X6". At the time, I thought that a larger tablet area was more important than a good name brand, but found otherwise. The Adesso was huge (that large molded plastic fringe is pretty but dysfunctional). The pen was moody - sometimes needed huge pressure, sometimes not, generally didn't work well unless it was plugged in when I booted the computer. More importantly, several key features didn't work - the pen sensitivity never worked in my favorite graphics program (Xara), and I couldn't set the function key areas to do what I wanted. (If I could really have made them operate the graphics software, my opinion might be very different!)Anyway, I just bought a Wacom Graphire4 4x5" tablet instead (note, the name-brand smaller Wacom is CHEAPER than this Adesso), and it truly makes a big difference. The pen sensitivity works, the tablet settings software works and has online help for questions. There are two buttons actually on the tablet - plus a scrollwheel - that you can program *by keystroke* for them to execute - so I can set them to the most common things I reach for the keyboard to use. (I would have liked 12 of those!) And in practice, 4x5 is a better size than 6x8 - enough resolution (and I have a 1680x1050 display) and less tiring than a bigger tablet, and doesn't take up so much *room* on the desk. If you can pay a little more and are wondering whether to go for area or quality - I recommend quality in these devices. I really do prefer the 4x5 *very* high quality Wacom over the 6x8 Adesso.

Not up to speed with Wacom's products,

I use a Wacom tablet at home, but at work we have the Cyber Tablet since the larger Wacom wasn't in the budget. I think this product would be fine if you're not using it in a work environment, eight plus hours a day. The button on the pen doesn't always work, and I end up having to grab the mouse to right click for my pop-up menus in InDesign and Photoshop. Also when using the pen, it doesn't always release exactly where it should when I'm dragging guides or image/text boxes. All too often I end up usingthe arrow keys to get the placement I need. Fine tuning the tablet's settings hasn't really helped any of that.If you're a graphic artist needing a pen tablet for daily use in a production environment, I'd recommend buying a Wacom tablet instead. These little glitches definitely slow down my productivity. If you want a cheaper tablet for a hobby, this is probably fine.

My First Personal Tablet,

I've used the Wacom brand (Intuos/Graphire) tablet at school and it's a beautiful piece of technology. But with the budget that I'm on at the moment, I couldn't afford buying one of those professional little gadgets. As an alternative, my brother bought this for me for my birthday. When he told me that it would come, I immediatly came to Amazon to check out the ratings and I was a little afraid with there only being three...two not giving it a high score. I went onto the products web site and saw that it wasn't compatible to Photoshop CS2. I was very afraid! But I just received it today and it's way better than I expected it to be. I highly reccomend it to anybody. If you have Adobe Photoshop CS2...don't follow the warning on their website because it's working with mine just fine.

I was so excited after waiting 10 days for this new Graphic tablet to come by mail. When it finally arrived I stop everything i was doing at the time to explore my new drawing accessory. As soon as i opened the shipping box to see to see for the first time my very own drawing tablet, my heart drop to my stomach when i looked inside because I know the difference between quality craftsmanship and throwing away money that I really didn't have. For starters the advertising on the box looks as if a 10 year old did the graphics and the packaging looked like it had been previously opened. Anyway I tried to install the disk that came with it but after 3 attempts I finally gave up and got help from the techs and was then emailed a different driver specifically for iMac intel based computers. So now it works, but the list of problems continues when i try it out in photoshop cs2. #1 the accuracy is terrible if you want to be precise. #2 cheap buttons on the pen that will not function properly. #3 drawing with the pen is larger than what you actually get on the screen(you have to draw big on the tablet just to get a nice size picture). #4 the pen will suddenly fly across the screen while I'm really concentrating on a drawing. And the list continues. But anyway i just wouldn't feel right if i didn't warn you.Just lookin out for you

Well, I liked how the drawing tablet performs. I believe it performs as I expected it to do. However, there are problems with the driver. I have to reinstall the driver every time I turn on my computer. If I don't install it, I can still use the tablet and mouse but without precision. So, I have to install the driver again and again, which is annoying. I am using Windows XP, but I don't know if this is an isolated case or not.

I am a college Chemistry teacher who has made the switch from the blackboard to digital using this product. I hook this up to the classroom computer, use the software which was supplied, draw structures and equations, save the whole lecture as a jpg, and upload it for my students. No more chalk which means my students can see better. I'm not standing in front of what I'm writing. The response from my students is all positive and they are trying to convince the Physics instructor to get one.On the downside, my pen did break after a bit of a tumble, and whatever your handwriting is on paper, it is worse digitally. I have pretty good handwriting so the students don't have any problem reading the digital. I would suggest trying a tablet before buying to see if you like it.

Okay,
This review is from: Adesso CYBER TABLET 8X6" GRAPHICS/DRAWING TABLET WITH 2-BTNUSB PEN AND MOUSE ( CYBERTABLET 8600 ) (Personal Computers)
I bought this maybe a year and half ago. My first time with a tablet. I believe this is a great beginners product. *Note there is a warning not to drop this tablet. Beware if you have small children around. My little brother just recenlty decided to pick up my tablet and BASH it across my computer desk one good time. My tablet is no longer operational. I highly suggest you get the 2 year warranty. This tablet is also compatible with several programs. I was shocked that it worked with my cg-illust program (a Japanese program). I was happy with it but every now and then I had issues with the pen. The pen curser would jump across the screen making marks on my picture. That's easily fixed with the undo button. Sometimes the sensitivity would just be off no matter what I did. Some days my lines will go on thick like an ms-paint line and some days it looked natural how it would look if I had drawn something with a pencil. I suggest this for a begginer.

There are many issues with this tablet. It was my first tablet and I now currently use a Bamboo Fun Wacom, which, even though it's smaller, is much highed in quality and never screws up. However, when I was using the adesso, the pen constantly didn't work, and I don't recall the pen pressure ever working. Many times I had to re-install and un-install the software to even use it, and half the time that didn't even work. One of my friends recently purchased this product and the tablet has not worked yet. I highly recommend not buying from Adesso, and go for the smaller Wacom tablets instead. This tablet annoyed me constantly and was very unreliable.

THIS TABLET DOESNT EVEN DESERVE A STAR.I just recently Adesso cyber table 8x6 for christmas.I was delited that I got one. Even though I had wanted the wacom 4x5 because my friends that were dedicated to art like me had one. 3 hours after I hook up the tablet christmas day it broke. I couldnt get it to work for a couple hours and had to resort to using the mouse, not the one that came with the tablet, because it was to loose, it would fly across the screen and took up to much room. A couple days later my sister wants to use the tablet, I was relucant, 20 minutes later its broken again, not because of her, but because the pen had had to much pressure put on it. Yet again I couldnt fix it for a couple hours. Although the tablet does work in adobe, I found mine to be extremely slow and it angered me waiting for it to load. sometimes 3 strokes made the whole computer freeze waiting for the colors to load. I thought that this tablet wouldnt take up to much room, but unlike the site, they didnt post the dimensions of the tablet, I eventually had to move the keyboard clear off the desk just to have enough room to draw. I still have my tablet, but am going to send it back and get a wacom. In the end I was very disapointed. This product is a failure in my eyes. |
