5.0 out of 5 stars Great for arthritic hands
It only takes a touch of the pad to click- right or left. Good if you have thumb, finger pain.

Underlying the Adesso name is Cirque. That's the company who originally introduced the touch pad mouse design to the PC market. I had a keyboard with one of these pads back in the Windows 98 days. It worked great. I loved it. As I migrated to Windows 2000, problems developed. The cursor lagged behind my commands to move it. I figured it was my computer causing the lag. I had to get another mouse.
Time has passed and I now dual boot Windows XP and Windows Vista. Thought I'd try one of these Smart Cats again because I missed it and now they even have a scroll function.
Unfortunately, there is still the lag problem. I move my finger on the pad and there's a half second delay before the cursor moves. Stop moving my finger on the pad and there's a half second or so while the cursor must catch up. The scroll function is "choppy" and lags also.
In the old days, I blamed Windows 2000 for the lag because it was a new operating system. Today, the same is happening with two newer computers using Windows XP and Windows Vista. Even the Adesso/Cirque hardware is newer. Lag is still there. The time lag is just too annoying.
Maybe the problem is the PS/2 connection? There's more bandwidth and faster transfers using USB so I would look to the USB version for sale on Amazon and see what people say there.
It saddened me to return this SmartCat. I think it's the best input device design ever created. I'm just waiting for Cirque to improve the implemenation. I want one of these that works. Maybe someday.
