This program was made to help Spanish speakers correct their accent in English. It identifies the twenty most common pronunciation problems they have in English. For example, many say the "r" in English like a "d" (the word, "explore" is said as "explode"), because that is how it sounds in Spanish. Once these trouble spots are isolated, the correct sounds are explained in mouth close-ups and illustrated through real-life conversations. Sound contrasts and practice sentences are then presented for reinforcement. Finally, helpful hints for continued pronunciation improvement are offered. Adiós, Accent is set up to support efforts by people whose native tongue is Spanish to speak English clearly and effectively.

I have found this video to be interesting for my students and effective in promoting their understand of how sounds are produced based on tongue position. I especially enjoy the "practice sentences with repetive sounds for reinforcement" (located at about 31 minutes on the VHS), which I have made into a handout for my students. It is effective for reading aloud, as well as for dictation.
