About adidas

The vision of company founder Adolf Dassler has long become reality, and his corporate philosophy the guiding principle for successor generations. The idea was as simple as it was brilliant. Adi Dassler’s aim was to provide every athlete with the best possible equipment. It all began in 1920, when Adi Dassler made his first shoes using the few materials available after the First World War.

The adidas name dates back to 1948, deriving from the first two syllables of Adi Dassler’s first and last name. One year later, Adi Dassler registered the Three Stripes as a trademark. After a period spanning almost 70 years, the Dassler Family withdrew from the company in 1989, and the enterprise was transformed into a corporation ("Aktiengesellschaft"). French-born Robert Louis-Dreyfus was Chairman of the Executive Board from April 1993 to March 2001. It was he who initiated adidas’ flotation on the stock market in November 1995. adidas--a name that stands for competence in all sectors of sport around the globe. Today, the adidas product range extends from shoes, apparel and accessories for basketball, soccer, fitness and training to adventure, trail and golf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality gear as expected, September 29, 2008
My previous gear was the basic cloth covered foam. My primary issue with that gear was keeping it clean.

These adidas shin and in-step protectors don't have that problem at all. In addition to being far more comfortable, they are essentially impervious to sweat. They provide a higher level of protection and a BETTER range of movement. The only negative compared to the cloth version is that they occasionally slip to the side. Not all the way, but with just three velcro straps, it's just more likely to slip than something that envelopes your whole calf.

They also have slightly better protection against elbow contact between the in-step and shin sections. Doesn't make you invulerable to a well placed elbow, but still better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much Better Protection than Cloth, July 1, 2010
This review is from: Adidas WTF TaeKwonDo Shin and Instep Protector (Misc.)
I finally upgraded after a year of sparring in cloth shin and instep protectors. My shins are really sad I didn't get these vinyl dipped ones earlier. It won't completely prevent bruising after a full on clash, but is a significant improvement over cloth.

Also, I have the shin protector without the attached instep. I've never tried the attached version, but have heard others say the shin protector with the "sock style" foot protector offers better coverage. Adidas WTF Taekwondo Approved Foot Protector - White

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Shin Protector, November 19, 2006
This review is from: Adidas WTF TaeKwonDo Shin and Instep Protector (Misc.)
I bought this shin protector lately after I injured my ankle sparring. I liked the idea that it has extra protection at this critical point. The padding at the ankle is not as heavy as I expected, but I still like it a lot. It is light and straps on securely so you don't have to make adjustments while sparring. Additionally, it has a nice ridge in the front to offer extra protection for the shin. I find it especially good for Taekwondo where there is lots of kicking and leg blocks are employed.
