We purchased the Adidas chip and think its fantastic. Not sure if they have improved it since they negative reviews but this is our experience.

My son plays premier soccer and literally is an animal with the wear and tear of his equipment. Big, rough and tough. So the chip has to be able to stand up to a pounding and it does.

* Setup - incredibly easy - my 10 year old set it up for my son and took her about 5 minutes. She downloaded the software from Adidas website micoach.com. Plugged the chip into side of computer. Registered my son as new user. Tapped the chip and it syncs. But, you need to sync before you workout for first time. Says so in manual, we were so anxious to get going who reads manuals!

* Data - games, trainings all download immediately by tapping the shoe or boot. Its that easy.

* Battery - have not yet needed to replace

* Our coaches - change the trainings based on the results.

* Player - knows how far they ran, sprinted, speed, how hard when etc. Great insight for a motivated athlete to know how to work harder or smarter

Other players in our team have also had no issues. We all bought in late 2012.

Fantastic dynamic read out for athlete details.

I'm horrible about reading instructions and we got this for my 11 year old son who plays soccer. He got tired of waiting for me to set it up so he did it and it worked right out of the package. We did get the one that connects to the iphone, so maybe that's easier to set up? So far, we're thrilled with the product.

I use micoach speed cell with the heart rate monitor almost every day. I'm an avid runner and dabble in cycling and I like to challenge myself to alway do better than my last. This handy gadget (paired with the app of course) changed my life (yes i do mean life). I bought my 1st one (along with my 1st pair of Vibrams shoes) maybe 3 years ago when I was still struggling to make running a habit, and the voice coaching was exactly what I needed. I'm pretty into electronics & apps so believe me when I tell you that I'd tried almost everything to get me moving without too much distraction and this is hands down the best! For a moment, I switched to a Android cell device (as I mentioned, I like electronics) but i quickly went back to iPhone mostly because there's not a droid compatible micoach device (shame on them for that). But anyway, this product/app, Vibrams Shoes, and my own will has been the key to shaving 3 MINUTES OFF of my 1.5 timed run for AF fitness requirements. Years ago I was winded after running what I thought was a respectable 14:45 1.5 mile run, but 5 months ago I did the same test in 11:14 and last month I tested myself and did it 10:45! I have a love/hate relationship with the programmed voice that tells me "Speed up to ___" when i fall below the pace i set for myself but I always appreciate the push in the end :-D

My son got this for Christmas. It took him quite a bit of time and frustration to set it up - and he's very tech savvy. It worked great for ONE basketball game. Data was interesting and retrieval was easy. The next time he tried it it gave an error message and hasn't worked since. We tried changing the battery - no luck. No tech support that we can find ... would be a great product if it actually worked.

The main problem with the miCoach is that to activate the tennis workout, which I purchased this for, you have to run about 3 or 4 court lengths in 1 minute to get your workout to register. For upper level tennis players, this probably isn't a problem, but for the average player, our rallies don't last that long. So workouts don't register and it ends up on the shelf collecting dust. The easy fix is just to reduce the requirement for the activity to register.

It's this simple, this is the worst 70 bucks I've ever paid in my life. Go for nike+. Mine also came with a dead battery. Thanks adidas.

I don't even know where to start about this product. Is it the bad software or the fact that you cannot determine if the battery of the speed cell is empty? Or maybe that you have no confirmation if anything is getting tracked.
I have used this speed cell in my soccer cleats for 5 weeks now. After week 3 it stopped recording - but of course you only know that after the game. So I changed the battery but next week same thing - no recording. I also own the Nike+ as well as a garmin GPS watch and both work great for over 4 years already. This product in this day and age is such a tremendous letdown that Adidas should be ashamed of ever releasing something like it. A complete waste of a lot of money.

If I could rate this ZERO stars, I would. Here's why:

I bought this because adidas touted this product as something that would be useful for tennis. Ok, I thought I'd give it a shot, since I already play in the Speed Cell-compatible Barricade 7.0 tennis shoes. Amazon Prime service was great as usual and the item showed up today. That's about it for the positives. Note how none of this has anything to do with the product itself...

Out of the box, I noted the incredibly vague Quick Start guide. These are the only instructions in the box and they're not very clear about anything. I then inserted the CONNECT (stupid and confusing name for a device, by the way) and tried to pair the Speed Cell itself. Here's where everything flat out sucked:

1. The app gives no indication whatsoever if the Speed Cell is paired. I would've been seriously annoyed if I went out and played 2 hours of tennis only to discover that there was no data to retrieve.

2. The online instructions at the micoach site gives ABSOLUTELY INACCURATE INSTRUCTIONS. The instructions on the site say to tap "Settings" and then select "Add Device"--guess what? There is no "Add Device" menu item!

3. In the absence of an "Add Device" option, I went into the "Sensors" menu. I tried to add a new "Stride Sensor," which I can only guess is what the instructions actually meant. Nope. The app/CONNECT couldn't find any sensors. Fabulous.

4. I tried getting more help by going into the micoach discussion forums. The forums are next to useless: NO search functionality, an eyesore to read, topic breakdowns are so general as to be
useless, and of course, any instructions found were still WRONG.

It actually made me angry trying to figure out how to use it. I mean, come on.
