An attempt at variation, but ends up too folky.,

This review is from: Adiemus III - Dances Of Time (Audio CD)
When I first heard the Delta Airlines commercial I instantly noticed the song and wondered who had composed it. Eventually I found Adiemus and really enjoyed their first album, Songs of Sanctuary. It was rich, expressive, and most of all original. The second album, Cantata Mundi was basically more of the same but had a more orchestral feeling, and overall wasn't as good as the first, but wasn't that bad either. Then there's the third album, Dances of Time. It's not that this album is really bad, it's just that it doesn't provide anything new. Carl Jenkins appears to have wanted to transcribe the unique sound of Adiemus onto other styles of music such as the tango, and square dance but the result is instead a mishmash of folky dance rythms, and classical waltzs. I still feel that Songs of Sanctuary was the best and it just got worse from there, which is a shame considering that the style had a lot of potential. Many of the songs in Dances of Time are upbeat and "move" but overall it seems too contrived. A for effort, C for implementation. Sometimes change is not a good thing. If your a big Adiemus fan you might want to give Dances of Time a go, but otherwise stick with Songs of Sanctuary and leave the others be.

Outstanding Adiemus,

When the first Adiemus album was released, I knew, withconfidence, that anything from the pen of Karl Jenkis will be good. Iwas, however, disappointed when I bought Adiemus III - Dances of Time. But don't be discouraged to buy this CD: It grows on you, to such an extent that your neighbors will beg you to please turn down the volume of your stereo system. My advice when listening to it is to listen to it very loud (you must have a good stereo system). It entrances you, and it is a breath of fresh air in this world of Brittney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and others. It is a marriage between baroque and rythmic styles of India, Africa and Europe, which gives to it a very mysterious flavour. No harsh tones used here, just pure music. It will keep your ear glued to the speaker. So buy it. buy it now.

Dances of Time will stay in your mind,

I've been an Adiemus fan for quite a while, and most people do not like this CD because it is not like the previous ones. Personally, I love this CD because it is different. Karl is a genious when it comes to arranging and composing. Miriam is an angel, and is simply amazing. Her voices on songs such as "Un Bolero Azul" are captivating. I LOVE it. Miriam and Karl are also very kind to their fans.

I think "Adiemus 2" is one of the best CDs in my collection, and the original "Adiemus" is also pretty wonderful. However, in 3, Jenkins slipped up. The beauty and grand feeling of the first two are replaced by jigs, and pretty trite ones at that. Phrases are unnecessarily repeated, and obvious hooks are run over and over to the point of distraction. And fairly frequently, the music will just bounce to a stop and then go on again, a technique that grows tired very quickly. In the service of this style, the instrumentation and vocals (which are still pristine) sound awfully contrived, even pretentious. There's some very impressive musical ability on display here, but it too often just doesn't amount to anything with emotion.I really wanted to like this album, but I just can't. There are some good moments, but it's too hard to let the sounds carry you away when you're busy rolling your eyes. Give this a miss, but run, don't walk to pick up "Adiemus 2".

An Excellent CD!,

This is a very well put together CD, consisting of different "Dances" that were popular throughout time. Each piece is wonderfully composed and performed, providing for an experience that you won't forget for a while. Another star from Karl Jenkins! Each track is extremely well done, comprised of the vocals that are familiar to Adiemus, and a more orchestral work than what has come before. Don't miss this CD!

Karl Jenkins is a genius. His compositions are always original and they always include that classical theme. "Songs of Sanctuary" includes very good music but Adiemus II (Cantata Mundi) and Adiemus III (Dances of Time) are even more exceptional. Most of the works I love are from Dances of Time these including Intrada and Pavan and African Tango, the former because of its classical theme, the latter because of its powerful voices. Dances of Time is my favourite album after Cantata Mundi as this album, one must say, also has a good background of classical music. Keep it up, Karl Jenkins !!

I simply fell in love with the first album(SONGS OF SANCTUARY),but DANCES OF TIME will sweep you away. The rythmns are POWERFUL and DYNAMIC. Almost all of the tracks have driving rythmic beats. The vocals are POWERFUL and the orchestrations very LUSH and FULL. The music keeps moving on and on with each track, I thought it never would end. The ending was to the point !!!!!!!!!!! Buy it***

Karl Jenkins has masterfully orchestrated this music for the soul. When I originally purchased Pure Moods a few years ago, I enjoyed "Adiemus" so much I bought the "Songs of Sanctuary". I followed with this CD, and particulary liked this selection, because it seemed more full bodied than the first. I have since rounded off my collection with Adiemus II, Diamond Music, and Imagined Oceans. Karl Jenkins's music is sensational, and I look forward hearing new pieces from him.

Beautiful work with few slips,
This review is from: Adiemus III - Dances Of Time (Audio CD)
The opening track "Corrente" is what started me on my journey into the magical world of Adiemus. Many of the tracks off of this CD combine world dance-rhythms and Africanized chants to create something truly special. Some tracks, like "Rain Dance", "Ein Wiener Walzer", "Dos A Dos", & "Intrada & Pavan" epitomize this description. Others, such as "Zarabanda", "Hymn To The Dance", & "Dawn Dancing" are more reminiscent of Adiemus' first CD, "Songs Of Sanctuary"--very soothing and uplifting at the same time. Only a few songs, like "Un Bolero Azul", drag on and slow the pace somewhat. Check this one out--it will be well worth your while.
