1.0 out of 5 stars Not good at all.
There's rule in Hollywood which states that a sequel can never be as good as the original. The Japanese anime industry, it seems, is not immune to this generalisation. Adieu Ginga Tetsudo 999 has all the weaknesses of its predecessor, and none of the strengths. Once again, we're prey to Matsumoto's overuse of coincidental encounters to pull our heroes out of danger,...

4.0 out of 5 stars A NICE SEQUAL, April 9, 2003
By A Customer
Galaxy express has always been one of the all time best animies and this is a sequal to it.

the story is about earth after 2 years.it had become a battleground and tetsuro is in the middle fighting those machine bodies,he later gets a telegram from maetel to board the GE999 and head on an adventure to destroy the main mechanoid planet.

This movie isnt as good as the original,a second best but if you love GE999 then you might like it

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty much loved it, January 9, 2002

This review is from: Adieu Galaxy Express 999 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is one of those movies that is part of a series that you have to know the name of to understand proper time frame. Another such movie is Dragoon, which if anyone knows the series this belongs to, please let me know, because it definitely ended in the middle. For the sake of information, this serial movie belongs to the Harlock Saga. I would not have any idea where the movie starts and ends on VHS because I have yet to see it on VHS; I saw it this summer in Massachusetts at 2:00 AM on Sci-Fi Network.
A boy's mother gets blown to bits by robotic soldiers, but not before he hears about how if he had a robot body, he would have eternal youth. He sets out to board Galaxy Express 999, but he faces a number of dangers along the way, and he eventually has to bum a ticket from an upper class woman named Maetel(pronounced like the Toy company that used to make Micro Machines). After riding on the Express for a while, they board in a number of interesing locations, and the main character begins to learn about the nature of the this train and the robot bodies, and he meets a group of rebels headed by Emeraude (I only remembered the women's names in this movie).

4.0 out of 5 stars Cerebral...light on the cheese...very good., August 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Adieu Galaxy Express 999 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Eternal life...wouldn't that be nice? Alas, it's too good to be true. Tetsuro's odyssey to restore flesh and blood to the dry, emotionless, mechanized universe is something you don't want to miss. The animation was smooth, pretty heavy on the violence but the gore isn't very explicit(but then, I saw it on the Sci-Fi channel, so I'm not sure). The action scenes were plentiful and absolutely dynamic. That Tetsuro kid is a bad little dude. The drama of the plot will pull at you without getting cheesy and the tiny little plot twists that seem confusing at first come full circle and make it a really epic film. See it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adieu Galaxy Express 999-The Best That Anime Has To Offer, August 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Adieu Galaxy Express 999 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Galaxy Express 999 is one of the most beatiful and touching stories ever.Adieu is especially great. The climactic battle scene in the beggining is very exciting, and the ending is spectacular.I would recomend this to all space-themed anime lovers."Now as the steam whistle blows, the train departs once more,it's destination...unknown." quote-R.S.

5.0 out of 5 stars most innovative anime, June 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Adieu Galaxy Express 999 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have seen many animes but this one (and the sequel) are the best put together I have ever seen. It is drawn so original and with some of the best characters I have ever seen. You have not seen anime until you have seen this. You should also check out Arcadia of My Youth another great work from Matsumoto.

5.0 out of 5 stars GE 999 changed my View on Anime, March 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Adieu Galaxy Express 999 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I had always loved to draw Anime, and I especially loved to watch it. As time went on though I started to loose interest. But then I saw GE 999. This movie got me going again. The plot of this movie goes right to your heart, and the effects in the movie was superb. I would recomend this movie to all Anime fans, and suggest that they buy it to put in their own collections.
