3.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly amateur, August 27, 2005
This review is from: Adirondack High: Images of America's First Wilderness (Hardcover)
I am disappointed by this book. I am left with the impression that the photographer simply didn't spend enough time in the woods. Some of the photos are quite stunning, but the majority of them are not. The lengthy captions only add to this impression. They often try to excuse lackluster images by lamenting the difficulty of the hike, the fact that his equipment malfunctioned, and how the weather didn't cooperate. Those are things anybody who's taken a hike with a camera has experienced. As a professional, his job is to spend the long hours to get perfect shots, discard the imperfect ones, and then not moan about how difficult the whole process was. It is also disappointing, to someone who knows the Adirondacks well, that the photographer limited his outings to the most accessible and popular summits. The views from these summits are wonderful to experience first hand, but as published photographs they border on cliché.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another beautiful pictorial of the Adirondacks, August 5, 2005
This review is from: Adirondack High: Images of America's First Wilderness (Hardcover)
I didn't read much of the test, but the pctures were spectacular. They are on a par with some other photographers.

Again, I bought this for Special Collections at our local college. They are very pleased to have it.
