Purchased and installed this using a 4 foot width. Since my posts were already in place, the adjustable feature (36-72 inches), saved me a lot of work. You can install pickets up to 6 ft high. The item appears to be of good quality, and installation took a little over 2 hours.

Installation issues.

1. I couldn't find an up/down marking on the frames, and installed the hinge frame upside down. Didn't find out until I was at the final step. Rather than uninstall everything, I drilled an extra hole in the frame for the upper S hook. Added time-5 minutes.

2. I wasn't sure if the supplied screws were for treated wood, so I used my own.

3. The supplied gate latch didn't appear to be bent to the proper angle, so the gate block kept the latch from engaging. It's possible my posts weren't quite even. Rather than risk breaking the latch by bending it, I installed a 5/8 picket on the inside of my 4x4 post, and chisled out a space for the gate block. This solved the problem. Added time-15 minutes.

4. When installing the screws through the frame and wood, you need to drill through the metal. The holes will not properly line up for most people, because of the adjustablity feature. Easy step, but not stated.

5. The rest of my 6 ft fence is 3 rail, but the 2 rail gate is solid.

6. For those thinking about installing a double gate. Even though the mfg states 2 gates can be combined, there are no predrilled holes for this. The double gate option appears to be an afterthought. Good luck if you go this way.

I now have a really nice wood gate, and plan to install a second.

Just finished installing 3 of these. 2 for a double gate and 1 for a single. These are the only way to go if you're thinking of building a fence gate. Quality construction, decent parts and good instructions. Super easy to install if you have any clue about simple measuring and some screws.

One note about security though, there's nothing to hold the hinges permanently on. You can lift it straight up and off its hinges.

Bought this gate kit thinking it would be easy to put together a sturdy, square gate. As it turns out, the engineering of the product was a problem, and the instructions were poorly done.

The simple, ubiquitous gate latch was made improperly. The tongue was not bent far enough to allow it to parallel the gate. So I had to place my own washers under one end of the tongue to compensate.

The instructions do not explain everything. There are two diagrams that show the "stop" in two different positions.

Additionally, the instructions had me screwing the metal frame to 2 x 4's before squaring up the gate. This would have meant that I would have made it rigid while it was not square. After making it rigid and not even close to square, I was supposed to place great stress on it by forcing it into being square. How ridiculous!

Upon trying to insert the two bars into both the top and bottom of the frame, there were no holes that would allow me to screw the frame to the horizontal 2 x 4's as instructed because the holes in the inner square tube and the outer square tube did not match up. This left me unable to follow the instructions to screw through the tubes into the 2 x 4's. I had to drill my own holes to align those of the inner and outer tubes, thus allowing the screws to pass all the way through both tubes.

Finally, the engineering of the hinge brackets is such that a bolt head protrudes into space that is needed for the front vertical pieces of the gate. Therefore, one cannot produce a gate with a flat front. The piece of wood covering the hinge brackets will bulge out by the thickness of the bolt heads and cause that piece of wood to stick out from the rest.

Overall, there are some well carried out aspects of this product, but the negatives far outweigh the positives. It was a time-consuming hassle to work with this gate kit. I would not recommend it. It would have been easier to make my gate completely from wood, and less expensive.
